How to Install and Splice the FCS29N-24-LSP Opticom Splice Cassette
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the FCS29N-24-LSP Opticom LC Splice Cassette, including detailed fiber splicing procedures and mounting into compatible panels or enclosures. WARNING: Unmated connectors may emit invisible laser radiation; maintain dust caps on unmated connectors. CAUTION: Fiber optic cable is sensitive to excessive pulling, bending, and crushing forces.

Tools needed:
#2 Phillips screwdriver, Scissors, Fiber optic cleaver, Fiber optic fusion splicer, Wire strippers, Isopropyl alcohol
Supplies needed:
Pan-Ty Cable Ties, 1/4” Phillips Screw, Discrete Splice Sleeves, Incoming fiber cable, Dust caps
- Prepare the Cassette for Splicing
Push down the Cover Removal Latch in the rear of the cassette and slide the Cover back until the 4 tabs clear, then remove the cover. If equipped, squeeze the two tabs on the Splice Tray inward and/or pull the Base wall outward to release and remove the Splice Tray from the Base. Carefully remove any coiled fiber pigtails from the Splice Tray and set them aside.
- Prepare Incoming Fiber Cable
Strip the outer jacket of the incoming fiber cable 20 inches (0.5 meters). Secure the incoming fiber cable to the Base using two provided Pan-Ty Cable Ties. Cut off any excess cable tie material. Optionally, secure the incoming fiber cable's Aramid yarn to the Base using the provided 1/4” Phillips screw(s).
- Perform Fiber Splicing on the Base
Expose all fiber ends for splicing. Slide a discrete splice sleeve onto either the pigtail or field fiber. Strip approximately 1.375” (35mm) of coating from each fiber and clean with isopropyl alcohol. Cleave the fiber so that 0.400” (10mm) of bare fiber extends past the fiber coating. Do not clean the bare fiber after cleaving or allow it to contact any surfaces. Splice all fibers according to splicer manufacturer best practices and heat the splice sleeve(s). Route the spliced fibers into the cassette, ensuring they are located under the Base fiber retention tabs. Secure the splice sleeves into the Splice Sleeve Holders in the Base.
- Replace Splice Tray
Replace the Splice Tray into the Base, if the cassette is equipped with one. Ensure no fibers previously spliced onto the base are protruding above the Base Fiber Retention Tabs. An audible 'CLICK' should be heard when the Splice Tray is pushed back into the Base.
- Perform Fiber Splicing on the Splice Tray
For 24-fiber cassettes like FCS29N-24-LSP, route the remaining incoming fiber cable to the Splice Tray to finish splicing. Repeat the splicing steps (strip, clean, cleave, splice, route, secure) for the fibers on the Splice Tray. Secure splice sleeves into the Splice Sleeve Holders on the Splice Tray.
- Re-install Cassette Cover
After all splicing is complete, re-install the Cassette Cover by reversing the removal steps. Push the cover forward until the Cover Removal Latch 'clicks' into place, ensuring the 4 tabs engage underneath the Base Tabs.
- Install Cassette into Panel or Enclosure
Install the cassette onto the front of compatible panels or enclosures by snapping the two grommets into the designated holes. Alternatively, for rear installation, temporarily remove the Bezel by pushing the Bezel latch inward. After installing the cassette through the rear, re-attach the Bezel and secure the grommets to the front.
