How to Install and Splice the Panduit FCS2ZO-24-MPP Opticom Splice Cassette
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and splicing incoming fiber cables into the Panduit FCS2ZO-24-MPP Opticom MPO Male Splice Cassette, including mounting it into a panel or enclosure.

#2 Phillips screwdriver, Scissors, Fiber Splicer, Fiber Strippers, Fiber Cleaver
Supplies needed:
Pan-Ty Cable Ties (PLT1M-M20WIP), 1/4" Phillips Screws for Aramid yarn strain relief, Splice Sleeves (Discreet), Dust caps, Incoming fiber cable, Isopropyl alcohol
- Prepare the Opticom Splice Cassette
Push down the Cover Removal Latch in the rear of the cassette and slide the Cover back until the 4 tabs clear. If the cassette is equipped with a Splice Tray, temporarily remove it by squeezing the two tabs inward and/or pulling the Base wall outward to release it. Carefully remove any coiled fiber pigtails and set them aside.
- Prepare and Secure Incoming Fiber Cable to the Base
Strip the incoming fiber cable outer jacket 20 inches (0.5 meters). Secure the incoming fiber cable to the Base using two provided Pan-Ty Cable Ties. Cut off any excess cable tie material. Optionally, secure the incoming fiber cable's Aramid yarn to the Base using the provided 1/4" Phillips screw(s) for strain relief. WARNING: Maintain dust caps on unmated connectors to prevent exposure to invisible laser radiation.
- Splice Incoming Fibers on the Cassette Base
Expose all fiber ends for splicing. Slide a splice sleeve onto either a pigtail or field fiber. Strip approximately 1.375 inches (35mm) of coating from each fiber and clean with isopropyl alcohol. Cleave the fiber so that 0.400 inches (10mm) of bare fiber extends past the fiber coating. Do not clean the bare fiber after cleaving, and do not let it contact any surfaces. Splice all fibers and heat the splice sleeve(s) according to your splicer manufacturer's instructions. Route the spliced fibers into the cassette, ensuring they are located under the Base fiber retention tabs. Secure the splice sleeves into the Discrete Splice Sleeve Holders in the Base.
- Replace Splice Tray and Splice Additional Fibers (if applicable)
If the cassette was equipped with a Splice Tray and you removed it, replace it into the Base. Ensure no fibers previously spliced onto the Base are protruding above the Base Fiber Retention Tabs. Push until an audible 'CLICK' is heard. If you have additional fibers or a second incoming cable to splice, secure them to the Splice Tray and repeat the splicing steps as performed for the Base. Secure these splice sleeves into the Splice Tray's Discrete Splice Sleeve Holders.
- Re-Install the Cassette Cover
After all splicing is complete and all fibers and splice sleeves are properly secured and routed, re-install the Cassette Cover. Push the Cover forward until the Cover Removal Latch 'clicks' into place.
- Install the Cassette into a Panel or Enclosure
To install the cassette from the front: Snap the two grommets on the cassette into the corresponding holes on the panel or enclosure. To install the cassette from the rear: Temporarily remove the Bezel by pushing the Bezel latch inward with your finger. Install the cassette through the rear of the panel or enclosure, then re-attach the Bezel and secure the grommets to the front. Optional Side Access: If required, remove the side breakout tabs on the Cassette Base by bending them outward with your fingers to allow side access for incoming fiber cables. Secure cables from either side using cable ties.
