This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and splicing incoming fiber cables to the FCS29N-12-LSP Opticom LC Splice Cassette, including securing the cassette into a compatible panel or enclosure.

#2 Phillips screwdriver, Scissors, Fusion Splicer, Fiber cleaver, Fiber strippers

Supplies needed:

Pan-Ty Cable Ties, 1/4" Phillips Screws, Discrete Splice Sleeves, Isopropyl alcohol, Lint-free wipes

  1. Prepare the Cassette for Splicing

    Push down the Cover Removal Latch in the rear of the cassette and slide the Cover back until the 4 tabs clear. Set the cover aside in a safe place.

  2. Prepare and Secure Incoming Fiber Cable

    Strip the incoming fiber cable outer jacket 20 inches (0.5 meters). Secure the incoming fiber cable to the Base using two provided Pan-Ty Cable Ties. Cut off any excess cable tie material. Optionally, secure the incoming fiber cable's Aramid yarn to the Base using the provided 1/4” Phillips screw(s) for additional strain relief.

  3. Perform Fiber Splicing

    Expose all fiber ends for splicing. Slide a discrete splice sleeve onto either the pigtail or field fiber. Strip approximately 1.375 inches (35mm) of coating from each fiber and clean with isopropyl alcohol and lint-free wipes. Cleave the fiber so that 0.400 inches (10mm) of bare fiber extends past the fiber coating. WARNING: Do not clean the bare fiber after it has been cleaved, and do not let it come in contact with any surfaces. Splice all fibers using a fusion splicer and heat the splice sleeve(s) according to the splicer manufacturer's best practice instructions. Route the spliced fibers into the cassette, ensuring they are located under the Base fiber retention tabs. Secure the splice sleeves into the discrete Splice Sleeve Holders in the Base.

  4. Re-install Cassette Cover

    Re-install the Cassette Cover by pushing it forward until the Cover Removal Latch 'clicks' into place, ensuring it is securely attached.

  5. Install Cassette into Panel or Enclosure

    Install the cassette directly onto the front of a compatible panel or enclosure by snapping the two grommets into the designated holes. Optionally, if installing from the rear, temporarily remove the Bezel by pushing the Bezel latch inward. After installing the cassette through the rear, re-attach the Bezel and secure the grommets to the front.
