How to Install the FCS2ZO-48-MPR Opticom Splice Cassette
A comprehensive guide for preparing, splicing, and installing the FCS2ZO-48-MPR Opticom Splice Cassette, which features 4 OM4 ribbon pigtails, into a compatible panel or enclosure.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
#2 Phillips screwdriver, Scissors, Fiber optic fusion splicer, Fiber cleaver, Fiber strippers, Lint-free wipes
Supplies needed:
Pan-Ty Cable Ties, 1/4" Phillips Screws (for Aramid yarn), Ribbon Splice Sleeves, Isopropyl alcohol, Dust caps, Incoming OM4 fiber cable
- Review Safety and Prepare Cassette for Splicing
WARNING: Unmated connectors may emit invisible laser radiation. Maintain dust caps on unmated connectors. CAUTION: Fiber optic cable is sensitive to excessive pulling, bending, and crushing forces. Consult the manufacturer’s cable specification sheet. Push down the Cover Removal Latch in the rear of the cassette and slide the Cover back until the 4 tabs clear, then remove the Cover. Squeeze the two tabs on the Splice Tray inward and/or pull the Base wall outward to release and remove the Splice Tray from the Base. Carefully remove any pre-coiled fiber pigtails and set them aside.
- Prepare and Splice Incoming Fiber Cable on the Base
Strip the incoming OM4 fiber cable outer jacket 20 inches (0.5 meters). Secure the incoming fiber cable to the Base using two provided Pan-Ty Cable Ties; cut off excess. (Optional) Secure the Aramid yarn to the Base using provided 1/4" Phillips screws. Expose all fiber ends for splicing. Slide a ribbon splice sleeve onto either the pigtail or field fiber. Strip approximately 1.375 inches (35mm) of coating, clean with isopropyl alcohol. Cleave the fiber so 0.400 inches (10mm) of bare fiber extends past coating. Splice ribbon fibers and heat sleeve. Route spliced fibers under Base retention tabs. Secure ribbon splice sleeves into the two ribbon holders in the Base.
- Replace Splice Tray and Splice Remaining Fiber Cable
Replace the Splice Tray into the Base, ensuring no fibers protrude above Base Fiber Retention Tabs. Push until an audible 'CLICK' is heard. If splicing additional incoming fiber cables or completing a 48-fiber splice, repeat the preparation and splicing steps for the Splice Tray. Secure incoming fiber cables to the Splice Tray (if applicable). Route spliced fibers under Splice Tray retention tabs and secure ribbon splice sleeves into the Splice Tray's holders.
- Re-install Cover and Install Cassette into Panel/Enclosure
After all splicing is complete, re-install the Cassette Cover by pushing it forward until the Cover Removal Latch 'clicks' into place. Install the Opticom Splice Cassette directly onto the front of a compatible panel or enclosure by snapping the two grommets into the designated holes. Alternatively, for rear installation, push the Bezel latch inward to release and temporarily remove the Removable Cassette Bezel. Install the cassette through the rear, then re-attach the Bezel and secure the grommets to the front.
