Overview

The nVent HOFFMAN GEC Operator Adapter (SKU: GEC) is engineered for seamless integration of General Electric flexible cable-operated disconnect switches and circuit breakers into nVent HOFFMAN Type 4 and 12 enclosures. This adapter is specifically designed for use with enclosures featuring a universal flange cutout, including Bulletin A21, A28, A34, and A4L3D models. The GEC facilitates the installation of disconnects by providing an adapter plate and necessary components to interlock the enclosure's master door with the disconnect operating mechanism. Installation instructions are included with each adapter. It is crucial to select the correct operator adapter based on the specific disconnect device and enclosure chosen. For disconnect switches rated 400A or greater, and circuit breakers rated 600A or greater, a large handle is required. Conversely, disconnect switches rated 200A or less, and circuit breakers rated 400A or less, utilize a small handle. The GEC adapter is constructed from durable gray steel, ensuring reliable performance in industrial environments. This adapter is manufactured in the USA.
  • Used on all nVent HOFFMAN Type 4 and 12 disconnect enclosures with a universal flange cutout
  • An operator adapter is required to install a disconnect in Bulletin A21, A28, A34, A35 and A4L3D HOFFMAN enclosures that have a universal cutout
  • Operator adapters include an adapter plate and additional components needed to interlock the master door with the disconnect operating mechanism
  • Installation instructions are included with each operator adapter
  • Each brand and type of disconnect requires a different operator adapter
  • A 400A (or greater) disconnect switch and 600A (or greater) circuit breaker require the large handle
  • A 200A (or less) disconnect switch and 400A (or less) circuit breaker require a small handle

How to Install the General Electric Cable Operating Mechanism (GEC)

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the General Electric Cable Operating Mechanism in a Hoffman enclosure.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Drill, Wire strippers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Plate gasket, Nylon washers, Flat washers, Lockwashers, Hex nuts, Door catch

  1. Install the operating plate

Attach the operating plate and plate gasket inside the enclosure behind the rectangular opening. Use four screws and four nylon washers to secure it in place.

  2. Assemble the operating handle

Connect the General Electric SCH operating handle and cable adapter to the mounting plate installed in step 1. Omit the cap screw and lockwasher for the bottom hole of the handle.

  3. Install the slide arm

Position the slide arm over the interlock part of the operating handle, ensuring the notch faces the door opening. Insert the shoulder collar through the slide arm and secure it with the long cap screw and lockwasher.

  4. Attach the slide arm to the lock release mechanism

Connect the bottom of the slide arm to the offset arm of the lock release mechanism using two flat washers, two lockwashers, and two hex nuts. Do not tighten yet.

  5. Adjust the safety lock release mechanism

Check and adjust the roller bracket on the enclosure to ensure the door latch hits the latch stop when closed. Adjust the slide arm length so the safety lock releases just before the master door is fully latched.

  6. Install the door catch

Attach the door catch to the tapped spacer on the door using two screws and lockwashers. This prevents the door from opening when the operating handle is in the 'ON' position.

  7. Drill and tap holes in the panel

Follow General Electric instructions to drill and tap holes in the panel, ensuring they are within the range of the cable length being used.

  8. Install the panel in the enclosure

Securely install the panel inside the enclosure.

  9. Mount the circuit breaker and cable operating mechanism

Follow General Electric instructions to mount the circuit breaker and cable operating mechanism on the panel.
