How to Install the General Electric Cable Operating Mechanism (GEC)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the General Electric Cable Operating Mechanism in a Hoffman enclosure.
Estimated time: 1h
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Drill, Wire strippers, Multimeter
Supplies needed:
Mounting screws, Plate gasket, Nylon washers, Flat washers, Lockwashers, Hex nuts, Door catch
- Install the operating plate
Attach the operating plate and plate gasket inside the enclosure behind the rectangular opening. Use four screws and four nylon washers to secure it in place.
- Assemble the operating handle
Connect the General Electric SCH operating handle and cable adapter to the mounting plate installed in step 1. Omit the cap screw and lockwasher for the bottom hole of the handle.
- Install the slide arm
Position the slide arm over the interlock part of the operating handle, ensuring the notch faces the door opening. Insert the shoulder collar through the slide arm and secure it with the long cap screw and lockwasher.
- Attach the slide arm to the lock release mechanism
Connect the bottom of the slide arm to the offset arm of the lock release mechanism using two flat washers, two lockwashers, and two hex nuts. Do not tighten yet.
- Adjust the safety lock release mechanism
Check and adjust the roller bracket on the enclosure to ensure the door latch hits the latch stop when closed. Adjust the slide arm length so the safety lock releases just before the master door is fully latched.
- Install the door catch
Attach the door catch to the tapped spacer on the door using two screws and lockwashers. This prevents the door from opening when the operating handle is in the 'ON' position.
- Drill and tap holes in the panel
Follow General Electric instructions to drill and tap holes in the panel, ensuring they are within the range of the cable length being used.
- Install the panel in the enclosure
Securely install the panel inside the enclosure.
- Mount the circuit breaker and cable operating mechanism
Follow General Electric instructions to mount the circuit breaker and cable operating mechanism on the panel.
