- An operator adapter is required to install a disconnect in Bulletin A21, A28, A34, A35 and A4L3D HOFFMAN enclosures that have a universal cutout
- Operator adapters include an adapter plate and additional components needed to interlock the master door with the disconnect operating mechanism
- Installation instructions are included with each operator adapter
- Each brand and type of disconnect requires a different operator adapter
- A 400A (or greater) disconnect switch and 600A (or greater) circuit breaker require the large handle
- A 200A (or less) disconnect switch and 400A (or less) circuit breaker require a small handle

How to Install the I-T-E MAX-FLEX™ Operator Adapter
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the I-T-E MAX-FLEX™ Operator Adapter in Hoffman enclosures.

Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Drill, Wire strippers
Supplies needed:
Adapter plate, Plate gasket, Mounting screws, Flat washers, Lockwashers, Hex nuts
- Install the adapter plate
Secure the adapter plate and plate gasket on the inside of the enclosure behind the rectangular opening. Use four screws and four nylon washers to secure it in place.
- Assemble the operating handle
Attach the I-T-E operating handle to the mounting plate installed in step 1. Omit the cap screw and lockwasher that fits into the bottom hole of the handle.
- Install the slide arm
Position the slide arm over the interlock lever of the I-T-E operating handle. Insert the shoulder collar through the oval slot in the slide arm and secure it with a long cap screw and lockwasher.
- Connect the slide arm to the lock release mechanism
Attach the bottom of the slide arm to the offset arm of the lock release mechanism using two flat washers, two lockwashers, and two hex nuts. Do not tighten yet.
- Adjust the slide arm assembly
Ensure the safety lock in the I-T-E operating handle releases just before the master door is fully latched. Adjust the slide arm length as necessary.
- Install the door catch
Attach the door catch to the tapped spacer on the door using the bottom set of mounting holes with two screws and lockwashers.
- Drill and tap holes in the panel
Follow I-T-E instructions to drill and tap holes in the panel. Ensure the disconnect can be located within reach of the cable length being used.
- Install the panel
Mount the panel on the collar studs in the enclosure.
- Mount the disconnect switch
Install the disconnect switch or circuit breaker and operating mechanism on the panel according to I-T-E instructions.
