Overview

The nVent ABBLC (SKU: ABBLC) is an Operator Adapter Universal Cutout designed for ABB controls, specifically for large handles. This adapter plate is essential for installing disconnect switches and circuit breakers in nVent HOFFMAN Type 4 and 12 enclosures that feature a universal flange cutout. It is compatible with large freestand and floorstand enclosures, including HOFFMAN Bulletins A21(S), A28(S), A34, and A4L3D. The ABBLC is required when a 400A or greater disconnect switch, or a 600A or greater circuit breaker, is being installed, as these applications necessitate a large handle. The adapter kit includes the adapter plate and all necessary components to ensure proper interlocking between the master door and the disconnect operating mechanism. Installation instructions are provided with each kit. It's crucial to select the correct operator adapter and enclosure for the specific disconnect device. The "Large" or "High Amp" cutout, which this adapter facilitates, accepts operating handles with mounting hole centers spaced 6.500 inches apart. This adapter is designed for ABB controls flange-mount variable-depth operating mechanisms for disconnect switches and circuit breakers, as well as their cable versions for circuit breakers. Manufactured in the USA.

How to Install the ABBLC Operator Adapter

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the ABBLC Operator Adapter for ABB Cable Controlled Large Handle Disconnects.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Terminal connectors, Nylon washers, Flat washers, Lockwashers, Hex nuts

  1. Install the adapter plate

Secure the adapter plate and plate gasket inside the enclosure behind the rectangular opening using four screws and four nylon washers.

  2. Assemble the operating handle

Attach the ABB operating handle to the mounting plate installed in step 1, omitting the cap screw and lockwasher for the bottom hole.

  3. Install the slide arm

Position the slide arm over the interlock lever of the ABB operating handle, ensuring the notch faces the door opening, and secure it with the shoulder collar and long cap screw.

  4. Connect the slide arm to the lock release mechanism

Attach the bottom of the slide arm to the offset arm of the lock release mechanism using flat washers, lockwashers, and hex nuts, but do not tighten yet.

  5. Adjust the slide arm assembly

Ensure the safety lock in the ABB operating handle releases just before the master door is fully latched by adjusting the length of the slide arm.

  6. Install the door catch

Attach the door catch to the tapped spacer on the door using screws and lockwashers to prevent the door from opening when the ABB operating handle is in the 'ON' position.

  7. Drill and tap holes in the panel

Follow ABB instructions to drill and tap holes in the panel for the disconnect, ensuring it is within reach of the cable length.

  8. Install the panel

Mount the panel on the collar studs inside the enclosure.

  9. Mount the disconnect switch

Secure the disconnect switch or circuit breaker and operating mechanism on the panel according to ABB instructions.
