Overview

nVent HOFFMAN WAMTF Operator Adapter integrates with nVent HOFFMAN Type 4 and 12 disconnect enclosures featuring a universal flange cutout. This ANSI 61 gray powder-coated steel adapter is required for installing disconnect devices in HOFFMAN enclosure models Bulletin A21, A28, A34, A35, and A4L3D when equipped with a universal cutout. The WAMTF is a Cable Operator F type adapter designed for universal cutout compatibility. It includes an adapter plate and components to interlock the master door with the disconnect operating mechanism, simplifying installation. Each disconnect brand and type requires a specific operator adapter; selecting the correct WAMTF ensures proper functionality and safety. For disconnect switches rated 400A or greater, or circuit breakers rated 600A or greater, a large handle is required. For disconnect switches rated 200A or less, or circuit breakers rated 400A or less, a small handle is used. Installation instructions are included with each adapter. While the WAMTF does not have independent NEMA or IP ratings, its compatibility with Type 4 and 12 enclosures ensures suitability for environments requiring that level of protection.

How to Install the WAMTF Operator Adapter

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the WAMTF Operator Adapter for Westinghouse Type AMT Flex Shaft Handle Mechanisms for circuit breakers.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Drill, Wrench

Supplies needed:

Adapter plate, Plate gasket, Mounting screws, Flat washers, Lockwashers, Hex nuts, Interlock blade

  1. Install the adapter plate

Secure the adapter plate and plate gasket inside the enclosure behind the rectangular opening. Use four screws and four nylon washers to secure it in place.

  2. Assemble the operating handle

Attach the Westinghouse 'AMTOP' operating handle to the mounting plate installed in step 1. Omit the cap screw and lockwasher that fits into the bottom hole of the handle.

  3. Install the slide arm

Place the slide arm over the projecting part of the 'AMTOP' operating handle. Insert the shoulder collar through the oval slot in the slide arm and secure it with a long cap screw and lockwasher.

  4. Connect the slide arm to the lock release mechanism

Attach the bottom of the slide arm to the offset arm of the lock release mechanism using two flat washers, two lockwashers, and two hex nuts. Do not tighten yet.

  5. Adjust the safety lock release mechanism

Check the adjustment of the roller bracket to ensure the door latch hits the latch stop when closed. Adjust as necessary. Then, adjust the length of the slide arm so the safety lock releases just before the master door is fully latched.

  6. Install the interlock blade

Attach the cover interlock blade to the tapped spacer on the door using the provided screws and lockwashers. Ensure the blade clears the interlock lever extension by 1/4 inch when the handle is in the 'OFF' position.

  7. Drill and tap holes for disconnect

Drill and tap holes in the panel for the disconnect as per Westinghouse instructions. Refer to the instructions for the correct location and size.

  8. Install the panel

Place the panel in the enclosure.

  9. Mount the disconnect switch

Secure the disconnect switch or circuit breaker on the panel following the Westinghouse instructions.
