How to Install and Splice the FCS29N-12-03P Opticom SC Splice Cassette
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for preparing, splicing, and installing the FCS29N-12-03P Opticom SC Splice Cassette into a compatible fiber optic panel or enclosure.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
#2 Phillips screwdriver, Scissors, Fiber splicer, Fiber cleaver, Fiber strippers
Supplies needed:
Pan-Ty Cable Ties, 1/4” Phillips Screws, Discreet Splice Sleeves, Isopropyl alcohol, Lint-free wipes, Dust caps, Grommets
- Observe Safety Precautions
WARNING: Unmated connectors may emit invisible laser radiation. Always maintain dust caps on unmated connectors. CAUTION: Fiber optic cable is sensitive to excessive pulling, bending, and crushing forces. Consult the manufacturer’s cable specification sheet for the specific cable in use.
- Remove Cassette Cover
Push down the Cover Removal Latch located in the rear of the cassette. Slide the cover back until the four tabs clear the cassette base. Set the cover aside.
- Prepare Incoming Fiber Cable
Strip the incoming fiber cable outer jacket approximately 20 inches (0.5 meters). Secure the incoming fiber cable to the cassette base using two provided Pan-Ty Cable Ties. Optionally, secure the incoming fiber cable's Aramid yarn to the base using the provided 1/4” Phillips screw(s).
- Prepare and Splice Fibers
Expose all fiber ends for splicing. Slide a splice sleeve onto either the pigtail or field fiber. Strip approximately 1.375” (35mm) of coating from each fiber and clean with isopropyl alcohol. Cleave the fiber so that 0.400” (10mm) of bare fiber extends past the fiber coating. Do not clean bare fiber after cleaving. Splice all fibers according to your splicer manufacturer's best practices and heat the splice sleeve(s).
- Route and Secure Spliced Fibers
Carefully route the spliced fibers into the cassette, ensuring they are located under the Base Fiber Retention Tabs. Secure the splice sleeves into the Discrete Splice Sleeve Holders on the base. The base has capacity for 12 discrete splice sleeves.
- Re-install Cassette Cover
Align the cassette cover with the base and slide it forward until the Cover Removal Latch 'clicks' into place, ensuring all four tabs are engaged underneath the base tabs.
- Install Cassette into Panel or Enclosure
Install the cassette onto the front of compatible panels or enclosures by snapping the two grommets into the designated holes. For rear installation, temporarily remove the bezel by pushing the bezel latch inward, install the cassette, then re-attach the bezel and secure grommets to the front.
