How to Install and Splice the FCS29N-24-LAP Opticom LC Splice Cassette
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for preparing, splicing incoming fiber cables to, and installing the FCS29N-24-LAP Opticom LC Splice Cassette into a panel or enclosure.

#2 Phillips screwdriver, Scissors, Fiber strippers, Fiber cleaver, Fusion splicer
Supplies needed:
Pan-Ty Cable Ties, 1/4" Phillips Screws, Discrete Splice Sleeves, Isopropyl alcohol, Dust caps
- Prepare the Cassette for Splicing
Push down the Cover Removal Latch in the rear of the cassette and slide the Cover back until the 4 tabs clear, then remove it. If equipped with a Splice Tray, squeeze the two tabs on either side inward or pull the Base wall outward to release and remove the Splice Tray from the Base. Carefully set aside any coiled pigtail fiber ends. WARNING: UNMATED CONNECTORS MAY EMIT INVISIBLE LASER RADIATION. MAINTAIN DUST CAPS ON UNMATED CONNECTORS. CAUTION: Fiber optic cable is sensitive to excessive pulling, bending, and crushing forces. Consult the manufacturer’s cable specification sheet for the specific cable in use.
- Prepare and Secure Incoming Fiber Cables
Strip the incoming fiber cable outer jacket by 20 inches (0.5 meters). Secure the incoming fiber cable to the Base using two provided Pan-Ty Cable Ties. Cut off any excess cable tie material. Optionally, secure the incoming fiber cable's Aramid yarn to the Base using the provided 1/4” Phillips screw(s). Expose all fiber ends for splicing.
- Splice Fibers to the Cassette Base
Slide a discrete splice sleeve onto either the pigtail or field fiber. Strip approximately 1.375 inches (35mm) of coating from each fiber and clean with isopropyl alcohol. Cleave the fiber so that 0.400 inches (10mm) of bare fiber extends past the fiber coating. Do not clean the bare fiber after cleaving or let it contact any surfaces. Splice all fibers designated for the Base and heat the splice sleeve(s) according to your splicer manufacturer's instructions. Route the spliced fibers into the cassette, ensuring they are located under the Base fiber retention tabs. Secure the splice sleeves into the discrete Splice Sleeve Holders in the Base (capacity for 12 discrete splices).
- Install Splice Tray and Splice Remaining Fibers
Replace the Splice Tray into the Base, ensuring no fibers previously spliced onto the base protrude above the Base Fiber Retention Tabs. Push until an audible 'CLICK' is heard. Route the remaining incoming fiber cable (if a 24-fiber cable is being used) to the Splice Tray. Repeat the splicing steps (strip, clean, cleave, splice, heat, route, secure) for the remaining fibers on the Splice Tray (capacity for 12 discrete splices).
- Complete Cassette Assembly and Installation
After all splicing is complete, re-install the Cassette Cover by pushing it forward until the Cover Removal Latch 'clicks' into place. Install the assembled cassette directly to the front of a panel or enclosure by snapping the two grommets into the designated holes. Optionally, for rear installation, temporarily remove the Bezel by pushing the Bezel latch inward to release it, install the cassette through the rear of the panel/enclosure, then re-attach the Bezel and secure the grommets to the front.
