How to Install the FCS29O-24-MPR Opticom MPO Male Splice Cassette
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and splicing incoming fiber cables into the FCS29O-24-MPR Opticom MPO Male Splice Cassette, including preparing the cassette, performing fiber splices, and mounting the cassette into compatible panels or enclosures. WARNING: Unmated connectors may emit invisible laser radiation; maintain dust caps on unmated connectors. CAUTION: Fiber optic cable is sensitive to excessive pulling, bending, and crushing forces.

Tools needed:
#2 Phillips screwdriver, Scissors, Fiber strippers, Fiber cleaver, Fusion splicer, Isopropyl alcohol
Supplies needed:
Pan-Ty Cable Ties, 1/4” Phillips Screws for Aramid yarn strain relief, Ribbon Splice Sleeves, Dust caps, Incoming fiber cable
- Remove Cassette Cover
Push down the Cover Removal Latch located in the rear of the cassette and slide the Cover back until the four tabs clear, then remove the cover from the base.
- Remove Splice Tray (if equipped)
If the cassette is equipped with a Splice Tray, temporarily remove it from the Base. Squeeze the two tabs on the Splice Tray inward and/or pull the Base wall outward to release it. Carefully remove any coiled fiber pigtails and set them aside.
- Prepare and Splice Incoming Ribbon Fiber on the Base
Strip the incoming fiber cable outer jacket 20 inches (0.5 meters). Secure the incoming fiber cable to the Base using two provided Pan-Ty Cable Ties. Optionally, secure the incoming fiber cable's Aramid yarn to the Base using the provided 1/4” Phillips screw(s). Expose all fiber ends for splicing. Slide a ribbon splice sleeve onto either the pigtail or field fiber. Strip approximately 1.375” (35mm) of coating from each fiber and clean with isopropyl alcohol. Cleave the fiber so that 0.400” (10mm) of bare fiber extends past the fiber coating. Do not clean the bare fiber after cleaving or allow it to contact any surfaces. Splice all fibers and heat the ribbon splice sleeve(s) according to splicer manufacturer best practices. Route spliced fibers into the cassette, ensuring they are located under the Base fiber retention tabs. Secure the ribbon splice sleeves into the Ribbon Splice Sleeve Holders in the Base.
- Replace Splice Tray
Carefully replace the Splice Tray into the Base, ensuring no fibers previously spliced onto the base are protruding above the Base Fiber Retention Tabs. Push until an audible 'CLICK' is heard, indicating it is securely in place.
- Splice Additional Ribbon Fiber on the Splice Tray (if needed)
If additional splicing is required for a 24-fiber incoming cable or other configurations, repeat the splicing steps (strip, secure, cleave, splice, route, secure sleeves) on the Splice Tray.
- Re-Install Cassette Cover
After all splicing is complete, re-install the Cassette Cover by pushing it forward until the Cover Removal Latch 'clicks' into place, securing the cover to the base.
- Install Cassette into Panel or Enclosure
Install the cassette directly to the front of compatible panels or enclosures by snapping the two grommets into the holes. Alternatively, for rear installation, temporarily remove the Bezel by pushing the Bezel latch inward. After installing the cassette through the rear of the Panel or Enclosure, re-attach the Bezel and secure the grommets to the front.
