This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Multi-Seal® RAB 1/0 SERIES connector, including cable preparation, insertion, and torquing. Ensure all safety precautions are followed.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Torque wrench, Wire strippers, Utility knife
Supplies needed:
Insulating gloves, Multi-Seal® RAB 1/0 SERIES connector, Electrical cable
- Observe Safety Precautions
Before starting, ensure all unused cable ports are sealed. If reinstalling a cable, it must be of the same size or larger than the one removed. Always follow standard safety practices when working on energized circuits. Wear insulating gloves rated to the appropriate voltage when installing on live conductors. Tap conductors may be installed on an energized main but MUST NOT BE UNDER LOAD. Installation must be performed by trained installers in accordance with all applicable local, state, and national electrical codes, installation standards, and safety rules. Danger of Electric Shock!
- Prepare Connector Cap (if applicable)
First, remove the cap from the connector. If you are using #14 to #4 AWG cable, cut the cap at the correct cut-off ring for your cable size. If you are using #2 to 1/0 AWG cable, the cap is not required, so you can discard it. Reinsert the cap into the connector if it was cut and is required for your cable size.
- Remove Screw Plug
Remove the screw plug from the connector body.
- Prepare the Cable
Measure the required strip length by placing the cable alongside the markings on the bottom of the connector. Carefully strip the cable to the measured length, ensuring a clean cut.
- Insert the Cable
Insert the prepared cable fully into the connector. For #2 to 1/0 AWG cables, insert it into the tower. For #14 to #4 AWG cables, insert it into the reinserted cap until it is fully seated.
- Secure the Connection
Replace the screw plug into the connector. Using a torque wrench, torque the connector to 80 in/lbs to ensure a secure and reliable electrical connection.
