How to Perform a Voltage Test with the 200TC-1 Direct Voltage Test Port Adapter
This guide details the safe procedure for using the 200TC-1 Direct Voltage Test Port Adapter with an HD Electric Co. Voltmeter/Phaser to determine if a circuit is energized via a separable connector's direct access port. Always follow high voltage safety practices.
Estimated time: 10m
Tools needed:
Hotstick tool, HD Electric Co. MARK l thru MARK lX Voltmeter/Phaser
Supplies needed:
Tube Lubricant, Approved eye protection
- Remove Access Port Cap
Wearing approved eye protection, use a hotstick tool to remove the insulated cap or fluid injection cap from the access port. Rotate the cap while exerting a pull force. Be aware that if fluid was injected, considerable pressure may be released. The uncovered port provides direct access to the cable conductor and must be treated as live front.
- Clean and Lubricate Components
Clean and lubricate the test rod of the 200TC-1 Direct Voltage Test Port Adapter and the inside interface of the adapter itself. Ensure all surfaces are free of debris for proper contact.
- Attach Adapter to Voltmeter Hotstick
Remove the brass probe from the end of the HD voltmeter hotstick. Attach the threaded stud of the 200TC-1 Direct Voltage Test Port Adapter to the HD voltmeter hotstick. WARNING: Only use HD Electric Co. MARK l thru MARK lX Voltmeter/Phasers.
- Insert Test Adapter into Access Port
Using the HD voltmeter hotstick tool, carefully insert the test rod of the 200TC-1 Direct Voltage Test Port Adapter into the elbow access port. Ensure the adapter is fully seated to make direct contact with the conductor; otherwise, no voltage indication will be obtained. This adapter is not shielded and must be considered live front.
- Remove Test Adapter After Detection
After voltage detection has been made, immediately remove the 200TC-1 Direct Voltage Test Port Adapter from the access port by exerting a pull force with the HD hotstick tool. DANGER: Do NOT allow the adapter to remain on the access port. Direct contact with the access port or adapter can cause serious or fatal injury.
- Reinstall Insulated Cap
Clean and lubricate the inside of the insulated cap and its rod. Using a hotstick tool, install the insulated cap back onto the access port. CAUTION: The access port provides direct access to the cable conductor and must not remain uncovered. When not covered, the port must be considered live front.
