How to Install and Operate the 160DRG/167DRG Insulated Cap with Ground Lead
This guide provides instructions for the safe installation, connection, and operation of the ELASTIMOLD 160DRG and 167DRG insulated caps with ground lead on 15kV class loadbreak bushing interfaces.
Estimated time: 20m
Tools needed:
Hotstick
Supplies needed:
160DRG or 167DRG Insulated Cap with Ground Lead, Lubricant (supplied or ELASTIMOLD approved)
- Connect Electrostatic Grounding Wire
Connect the free end of the electrostatic grounding wire to the system ground. Ensure enough slack is left for hot-stick operation of the insulated cap. CAUTION: Train the grounding wire to avoid contact with the bushing interface during operation.
- Prepare and Lubricate the Insulated Cap
Remove the protective cover from the insulated cap. Lubricate the cap's internal mating surface using only the supplied lubricant or ELASTIMOLD approved lubricants. Do not substitute. Keep the internal mating surface free from dirt and grime. Always replace the protective cover when the cap is not in use.
- Install the Insulated Cap onto the Bushing
Firmly attach a hotstick to the insulated cap's pulling eye. Insert the male contact of the insulated cap into the loadbreak bushing, pushing it home with a fast, firm, straight motion. Verify it is fully mated with the locking ring seated. Detach the hotstick from the insulated cap.
- Remove the Insulated Cap (Operation)
To remove the cap, attach a hotstick to the pulling eye. Before pulling, rotate the insulated cap clockwise slightly while it is still in the mated position to break surface friction. Pull the receptacle off with a fast, firm, straight motion. After removal, disconnect the electrostatic grounding wire from the system ground. Replace the protective cover on the insulated cap to keep its internal surface clean.
