How to Crimp AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, and V Receptacle Contacts

This guide provides instructions for preparing wires and crimping AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, and V receptacle contacts for proper electrical and mechanical performance. It covers wire stripping, crimping, and verification.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Wire Strippers, Appropriate Hand Crimping Tool (refer to Figure 9 for part numbers), Caliper or Micrometer (for verification), Extraction Tool (optional, refer to Figure 9 for part numbers)

Supplies needed:

AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, or V Receptacle Contacts, AMPMODU MOD IV Connector Housings, Insulated Wire (32-20 AWG)

  1. Prepare the Wire for Crimping

Select the appropriate wire (32-20 AWG) and strip its insulation to the length specified in Figure 2 of the application specification (114-25003). Ensure that the wire conductor is not nicked, scraped, or cut during the stripping process.

  2. Crimp the Receptacle Contact

Place the stripped wire and a receptacle contact into the appropriate hand crimping tool. Terminate the contact according to the tool's instructions. Exercise caution to prevent cutting or breaking the wire insulation, and ensure the insulation is not crimped into the contact wire barrel.

  3. Verify Crimped Contact Integrity

Inspect the crimped contact for proper formation. Ensure the crimp height and width are within the dimensions provided in Figure 2, and the crimp length meets Figure 3 specifications. Verify that the insulation barrel firmly grips the wire insulation without cutting it, and both wire conductor and insulation are visible in the transition area. Confirm the wire barrel seam is closed with no loose strands, and there is no significant twist, roll, or damage to the contact's mating portion (Figures 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10).

  4. Insert Crimped Contact into Housing

Carefully insert the crimped contact into the designated cavity of the AMPMODU MOD IV connector housing. Ensure the contact's locking lance engages fully with the housing to secure the contact in place. Verify that the housing is not cracked or damaged during insertion.
