How to Crimp and Assemble AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, and V Receptacle Contacts

This guide provides instructions for preparing wires, crimping AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, and V receptacle contacts, and inspecting the finished crimp for proper assembly into compatible housings.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Wire strippers, Appropriate crimping tool (refer to Section 5, TOOLING, in document 114-25003)

Supplies needed:

AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, or V Receptacle Contacts, AMPMODU MOD IV Connector Housings, Insulated Wires (32-20 AWG)

  1. Strip Wire Insulation

Select the appropriate wire size (32-20 AWG) and strip the insulation to the length specified in Figure 2 of the application specification (114-25003). CAUTION: Ensure that the wire conductor is not nicked, scraped, or cut during the stripping process.

  2. Crimp Contact onto Wire

Using the appropriate crimping tool for your specific contact and wire size (refer to Section 5, TOOLING, and the tool's instructions), position the contact and the stripped wire. Terminate the contact by performing the crimping operation. CAUTION: Ensure the wire insulation is not cut or broken, and that it is not crimped into the contact wire barrel.

  3. Verify Crimp Quality

Visually inspect the crimped contact according to the requirements in Section 3.3 and Figure 10 of the application specification. Verify that the crimp height and length are within specifications, front and rear bellmouths are evident, the cutoff tab is visible, and any burrs or wire barrel flash do not exceed maximum dimensions. Ensure the insulation barrel firmly grips the insulation without cutting it, and both wire conductor and insulation are visible in the transition area. Confirm the wire barrel seam is closed with no loose strands, and there is no twist, roll, deformation, or excessive bending (Figures 5 and 6) in the mating portion of the contact.

  4. Insert Contact into Housing

Carefully insert the crimped contact into the designated cavity of the AMPMODU MOD IV connector housing. Ensure the contact's locking lance engages the housing to securely lock the contact in place. Verify that the contact is fully seated and locked, and the housing is not cracked or damaged.
