How to Install AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, and V Receptacle Contacts and Housings

This guide provides instructions for preparing wires, crimping AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, and V receptacle contacts, and inserting them into compatible housings. It also covers optional keying and contact extraction.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Wire strippers, Hand Crimping Tool, Extraction Tool

Supplies needed:

AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, or V Receptacle Contacts, AMPMODU MOD IV Connector Housings, Wire (32-20 AWG), Keying Plugs (Optional)

  1. Prepare Wire for Crimping

Strip the wire to the specified length according to Figure 2 in the application specification. Ensure the wire conductor is not nicked, scraped, or cut during stripping. Verify the insulation diameter is within the acceptable range for the chosen contact.

  2. Crimp Receptacle Contact

Select the appropriate hand crimping tool for your wire size and contact type (refer to Section 5, Figure 9 in the application specification). Place the contact into the tooling as per the tool's instructions. Terminate the contact, ensuring the wire insulation is not cut or crimped into the wire barrel. Verify the crimp height, length, bellmouths, and cutoff tab conform to the dimensions in Figure 3 and Figure 2.

  3. Perform Post-Crimp Inspection

Visually inspect the crimped contact. Confirm that the wire barrel seam is closed with no loose strands, the insulation barrel firmly grips the insulation without cutting, and both conductor and insulation are visible in the transition area. Check for any twist, roll, deformation, or bending that exceeds the limits shown in Figures 4, 5, and 6. The locking lance must not be damaged or depressed.

  4. Insert Contact into Housing

Insert the crimped contact into the desired position in the AMPMODU MOD IV housing. Ensure the contact snaps securely into place and the locking lance engages the housing. Verify that the housing is not cracked or damaged and the contacts are locked in place, as illustrated in Figure 10.

  5. Install Keying Plugs (Optional)

If required, install keying plugs into either an open receptacle contact or directly into a housing position to prevent incorrect mating. Refer to Figure 8 for visual guidance on keying plug types and placement.

  6. Extract a Contact from Housing (Optional)

If a contact needs to be replaced or relocated, use the appropriate extraction tool (e.g., 843473-1, 843475-1, 843477-[ ]) as listed in Section 5, Figure 9. Follow the instructions provided with the extraction tooling to release the locking lance and remove the contact without damaging the housing or other contacts.
