This guide provides step-by-step instructions for preparing wires, crimping AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, and V receptacle contacts, and inserting them into compatible housings for reliable electrical connections.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Wire strippers, Hand Crimping Tool (e.g., TE Connectivity 90202-3 or equivalent), Extraction Tool (e.g., TE Connectivity 843473-1, for repair/replacement)
Supplies needed:
AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, or V Receptacle Contacts, AMPMODU MOD IV Housings (single-row or double-row), Insulated Wire (32-20 AWG), Keying Plugs (optional)
- Prepare the Wire for Crimping
Select the appropriate wire size (32-20 AWG) and strip the insulation to the length specified in Figure 2 of the application specification for your contact type. CAUTION: Do not nick, scrape, or cut the wire conductor during the stripping operation.
- Crimp the Receptacle Contact onto the Wire
Locate the contact in the appropriate hand crimping tool or applicator according to the tool's instructions. Terminate the contact, ensuring the crimp height, length, and bellmouths conform to the dimensions in Figure 3. Verify the insulation barrel grips the insulation firmly without cutting it, and the wire barrel seam is closed. CAUTION: Wire insulation shall NOT be cut or broken during the crimping operation, nor shall the insulation be crimped into the contact wire barrel.
- Insert the Crimped Contact into the Housing
Insert the crimped contact into the desired position within the AMPMODU MOD IV housing. Ensure the contact is fully seated and the locking lance engages the housing to secure the contact in place. Verify the housing is not cracked or damaged and that the locking lance is not damaged or depressed.
- Verify Crimp and Contact Integrity
Visually inspect the crimped contact and its insertion into the housing. Ensure the wire barrel is closed with no strands protruding, insulation is not cut, and conductors are visible in the transition area. Confirm conductor ends are flush or slightly protrude, and that cutoff tabs are visible. There should be no damage or distortion to the contact area.
