How to Crimp and Install AMPMODU MOD IV Receptacle Contacts

This guide provides instructions for preparing wires, crimping AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, and V receptacle contacts, and inserting them into compatible housings.

Estimated time: 20m

Tools needed:

Wire Strippers, Hand Crimping Tool, Extraction Tool

Supplies needed:

AMPMODU MOD IV, IV1/2, or V Receptacle Contacts, AMPMODU MOD IV Connector Housings, Wires (32-20 AWG), Cable ties (optional)

  1. Prepare the Wire

Strip the wire insulation to the length specified in Figure 2 of the documentation for your specific wire gauge and contact type. Exercise caution to avoid nicking, scraping, or cutting the wire conductor during this process.

  2. Crimp the Receptacle Contact

Using the appropriate hand crimping tool (refer to Section 5 of the documentation for tooling options), crimp the receptacle contact onto the stripped wire. Ensure the contact is correctly positioned in the tool. Do not cut or break the wire insulation, and prevent the insulation from being crimped into the contact's wire barrel.

  3. Verify Crimp Quality

Visually inspect the crimped contact. Verify that the crimp height and length meet the specifications in Figure 2 and Figure 3 of the documentation. Ensure front and rear bellmouths are evident, the insulation barrel firmly grips the insulation without cutting it, and the wire barrel seam is closed with no loose strands. Confirm there is no damage or distortion to the contact's mating portion.

  4. Insert Contact into Housing

Carefully insert the crimped contact into the desired cavity of the AMPMODU MOD IV housing. Push until the contact's locking lance fully engages with the housing, securing the contact firmly in place. You should feel or hear a click.

  5. Secure Wires (Optional)

If your housing features strain relief/pull tabs, secure the wires using a cable tie to provide additional strain relief and prevent accidental dislodgement, as shown in Figure 10.
