How to Crimp Electrical Lugs and Splices with the TBM45BB Comfort Crimp Tool

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for using the TBM45BB Comfort Crimp tool to install Blackburn copper and aluminum lugs, splices, and C-taps. It covers the crimping process and important safety considerations for electrical connections.

Estimated time: 10m

Tools needed:

TBM45BB COMFORT CRIMP® COMPRESSION TOOL, Wire strippers

Supplies needed:

Blackburn® Copper and Aluminum Lugs, Splices, or C-Taps, Electrical Wire

  1. Read Safety Information and Prepare the Tool

Before operation, read and understand all instructions and safety information in the manual. Open the tool handles fully. Depress the wheel release button and rotate the wheel to the proper die nest for your terminal. Release the button to lock the wheel into position. WARNING: Handles are non-insulating. Do not crimp on hot energized wires. Keep all body parts away from the die nest during gaging or crimping procedures.

  2. Insert Terminal and Wire

Insert the terminal into the selected die nest. Close the handles slightly to secure the terminal, ensuring not to deform it. Then, insert the stripped wire fully into the terminal barrel.

  3. Perform the Crimp

Close the handles firmly until the SHURE STAKE® mechanism cycle has been fully completed. Perform two equally spaced crimps on the terminal barrel to ensure a secure and reliable connection.

  4. Release SHURE STAKE® Mechanism (If Necessary)

In the event the SHURE STAKE® mechanism must be released before a full cycle, push up on the release bar until the ratchet teeth are disengaged.
