How to Install Star Teck™ PVC Cable Fittings (ST250-478PVC Series)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of Star Teck™ PVC cable fittings, including cable preparation, boot trimming, and securing the fitting to ensure an optimal seal. WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before installation. CAUTION: Product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Strap wrenches, Hacksaw
Supplies needed:
Star Teck™ PVC Cable Fitting, Armored Cable, Wire pulling lubricant (optional)
- Select the Correct Fitting and Prepare Cable
Choose the appropriate Star Teck™ PVC cable fitting that accommodates your enclosure and cable. Determine the working length of the cable, remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the armor, then cut the armor using a hacksaw. Trim the outer jacket to adjust the exposed armor strip length as indicated in the product table (refer to Figures 1 and 2 in the original document).
- Trim the Cable Boot
Determine where to cut the cable boot using one of two methods: Method 1: Unscrew the gland nut from the body, force the square-cut cable into the boot, and then cut the boot in front of the cable (Figure 3A). Method 2: Strip the cable jacket off the armor, then progressively cut slices off the boot until the opening can snugly slide onto the armor (Figure 3B). CAUTION: Do not over-strip the boot; there should be no gaps between the boot and the cable jacket.
- Feed Cable and Secure Fitting
Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening and push it until the cable armor hits the end stop (Figure 4). Tighten the gland nut using strap wrenches until you obtain an appropriate seal or reach the maximum torque specified in the product table (refer to Figure 5). Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable's outer jacket and the cable remains centered for an optimal seal.
