Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Strap wrenches, Hacksaw
Supplies needed:
Armored cable, Wire pulling lubricant (optional)
- Select the Correct Fitting
Consult the assembly and table within the product documentation to choose the appropriate ST-PVC cable fitting that matches your enclosure and cable specifications.
- Prepare the Cable Armor
Determine the required working length of the cable. Carefully remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the cable armor. Use a hacksaw to cut the armor, then trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length specified in the product table (refer to Figures 1 and 2 in the documentation).
- Trim the Cable Boot
Select one of two methods to trim the cable boot: Method 1: Unscrew the gland nut, force the square-cut cable into the boot, and cut the boot directly in front of the cable (Figure 3A). Method 2: Strip the cable jacket from the armor, then progressively cut slices off the boot until its opening snugly slides onto the armor (Figure 3B). CAUTION: Do not over-strip the boot; ensure no gaps remain between the boot and cable jacket.
- Insert Cable into Fitting
Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening. Push the cable until the cable armor firmly hits the internal end stop of the fitting (refer to Figure 4). Using wire pulling lubricant (cat. number 15-236) can facilitate easier insertion.
- Secure and Seal the Fitting
Using strap wrenches, tighten the gland nut until an appropriate seal is achieved or to the maximum torque specified in the product table (refer to Figure 5). Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable's outer jacket and the cable remains centered for an optimal, watertight seal.
