How to Install Star Teck PVC Cable Fittings
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Star Teck PVC Series cable fittings, ensuring a proper and secure seal. WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before installation. - Select the Appropriate Cable Fitting
Choose the correct Star Teck PVC cable fitting that accommodates your specific enclosure and cable dimensions. Refer to the product assembly and table for compatibility.
- Prepare the Cable Armor
Determine the required working length of the cable. Carefully remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the cable armor. Using a hacksaw, cut the armor to the desired length. Trim the outer jacket to adjust the exposed armor strip length as indicated in the product table.
- Cut the Cable Boot
Cut the cable boot using one of two methods: Method 1: Unscrew the gland nut from the fitting body, force the square-cut cable into the boot, and then cut the boot flush with the front of the cable. Method 2: Strip the cable jacket off the armor, then progressively cut slices off the boot until the opening can snugly slide onto the cable armor. CAUTION: Do not over strip the boot; there should be no gaps between the boot and the cable jacket.
- Feed Cable Through Gland Nut
Feed the prepared cable through the opening of the gland nut. Push the cable until its armor firmly contacts the internal end stop of the fitting. The use of wire pulling lubricant is optional but can facilitate easier installation.
- Tighten the Gland Nut for a Secure Seal
Tighten the gland nut until you achieve an appropriate seal around the cable or to the maximum torque specified in the product table. For PVC coated fittings, use strap wrenches only. Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable’s outer jacket and that the cable remains centered to obtain an optimal seal.
