How to Install Star Teck™ PVC Cable Fitting ST075-467PVC
This guide provides detailed instructions for the safe and proper installation of Star Teck™ PVC cable fittings, specifically the ST075-467PVC model, to ensure a secure and sealed connection for armored cables.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Strap wrenches, Hacksaw, Wire strippers
Supplies needed:
Wire pulling lubricant, Appropriate armored cable
- Disconnect Power and Select Fitting
WARNING: Disconnect all power before beginning installation to prevent risk of electrical shock. Ensure the product is installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Select the appropriate ST075-467PVC fitting that matches your enclosure and cable specifications.
- Prepare the Cable
Determine the required working length of the cable. Carefully remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the cable armor. Using a hacksaw, cut the armor to the specified strip length as indicated in the product table (refer to Figures 1 and 2 in the original documentation for visual guidance). Trim the outer jacket to adjust the exposed armor strip length accordingly.
- Prepare the Cable Boot
Prepare the cable boot for a snug fit. You can use one of two methods: Method 1: Unscrew the gland nut from the body, force the square-cut cable into the boot, and then cut the boot in front of the cable. Method 2: Strip the cable jacket off the armor, then progressively cut slices off the boot until the opening can snugly slide onto the armor. CAUTION: Do not over-strip the boot; there should be no gaps between the boot and the cable jacket.
- Insert Cable into Fitting
Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening. Push the cable until its armor firmly hits the internal end stop of the fitting (refer to Figure 4 in the original documentation). Applying wire pulling lubricant (e.g., Cat. No. 15-236) can facilitate easier installation.
- Secure and Seal the Gland Nut
Tighten the gland nut using strap wrenches until an appropriate seal is achieved, or to the maximum torque specified in the product table for ST075-467PVC (refer to Figure 5 in the original documentation). Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable’s outer jacket and that the cable remains centered within the fitting to obtain an optimal, watertight seal.
