How to Install Star Teck™ PVC Cable Fittings

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for preparing cable and installing Star Teck™ PVC cable fittings (e.g., ST050-464PVC) to ensure a proper seal and secure connection in accordance with electrical codes.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Strap wrenches, Wire strippers

Supplies needed:

Star Teck™ PVC Cable Fitting, Cable, Wire pulling lubricant (optional)

  1. Select the Correct Fitting

Choose the appropriate Star Teck™ PVC cable fitting that accommodates the enclosure and the specific cable being used, referring to the assembly and table provided in the product documentation. Ensure the fitting is suitable for the intended application and environment.

  2. Prepare the Cable

Determine the required working length of the cable. Carefully remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the cable armor. Use a hacksaw to cut the armor, then trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length specified in the product table (refer to Figures 1 and 2 in the original document).

  3. Cut the Cable Boot

Determine where to cut the cable boot using one of two methods. Method 1: Unscrew the gland nut from the fitting body, force the square-cut cable into the boot, and then cut the boot in front of the cable. Method 2: Strip the cable jacket off the armor, then progressively cut slices off the boot until the opening can snugly slide onto the armor (refer to Figures 3A and 3B). CAUTION: Do not over-strip the boot; there should be no gaps between the boot and the cable jacket.

  4. Feed Cable Through Gland Nut

Insert the prepared cable through the opening of the gland nut. Push the cable until its armor makes contact with the end stop inside the fitting (refer to Figure 4).

  5. Secure and Seal the Fitting

Tighten the gland nut until an appropriate seal is achieved or to the maximum torque specified in the product table. Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable's outer jacket and that the cable remains centered within the fitting to obtain an optimal seal (refer to Figure 5). WARNING: Disconnect power before installation. CAUTION: Product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
