How to Install the SDK Inline Fuse/Disconnect

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for assembling and wiring the SDK inline fuse/disconnect, including cable preparation, crimping, and final assembly for street lighting applications.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Crimping tool, Wire strippers, Wood dowel

Supplies needed:

Lubricant, Fuse (13/32" x 1 1/2", 600V 30A max), Connecting link

  1. Prepare the Load Side Housing

WARNING: Disconnect power before beginning installation to prevent risk of shock. CAUTION: Product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. CAUTION: Identify LINE and LOAD sides of wiring and molded connector bodies before beginning installation. Measure the cable diameter for the load side. Refer to Table 1 in the documentation to select the corresponding section on the molded sleeve and cut off the remaining sections of the housing to match the size referenced in the Range column.

  2. Prepare and Insert Load Side Cable

Thoroughly clean approximately 8 inches along the load side cable end. Apply lubricant and insert the cable through the small hole in the load side (plug) housing. Push the cable through a sufficient distance to allow for 3/8 inch stripping of insulation, then strip the insulation for 3/8 inch.

  3. Crimp the Load Side Cable

Insert the stripped load side cable into the crimp barrel of the fuse holder. Using the recommended tool and die from Table 2 in the documentation, securely crimp the cable into place.

  4. Secure Fuse Holder to Load Side Housing

Lightly apply lubricant to the outside of the fuse holder. Insert the wood dowel into the socket and brace the free end of the dowel against a firm surface. Push the load side (plug) housing forward until the fuse holder snaps securely into position. Wipe off any excess lubricant.

  5. Prepare and Assemble the Line Side

Repeat steps 1 through 4 for the line side (receptacle) housing and cable. Ensure the cable diameter is measured, cleaned, stripped, crimped, and the fuse holder is securely snapped into the line side housing.

  6. Install Fuse or Connecting Link

Insert a 13/32 inch by 1 1/2 inch fuse (600 Volt, 30 Amp maximum) or the connecting link into the plug (load side) housing. WARNING: DO NOT use a glass body fuse.

  7. Connect Load and Line Housings

Connect the load side (plug) housing and the line side (receptacle) housing together, ensuring a secure connection.
