This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the SDK 6 inline fuse/disconnect, including cable preparation, fuse holder assembly, and final connection. Ensure power is disconnected before beginning installation and that a qualified electrician performs the work.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Cable diameter measuring tool, Wire strippers, Crimping tool (e.g., T&B WT111M or TBM45S), Wood dowel
Supplies needed:
Load side cable, Line side cable, Lubricant, Fuse (13/32" x 1 1/2", 600 Volt 30 Amp max, non-glass body) OR connecting link
- Prepare Load Side Cable Housing
WARNING: Disconnect power before installation. Measure the load side cable diameter. Refer to Table 1 in the documentation to select the corresponding section on the molded sleeve and cut off the remaining sections of the load side (plug) housing to the size referenced in the Range column.
- Strip Load Side Cable
Thoroughly clean approximately 8 inches along the load side cable end. Apply lubricant and insert the cable through the small hole in the load side (plug) housing. Push the cable through a sufficient distance to permit 3/8 inch stripping of insulation, then strip the insulation a distance of 3/8 inch.
- Crimp Load Side Cable to Fuse Holder
Insert the stripped load side cable into the crimp barrel of the fuse holder and crimp it securely. Refer to Table 2 in the documentation for suggested crimping tool and die based on conductor size.
- Assemble Load Side Fuse Holder
Apply lubricant lightly to the outside of the fuse holder. Place the wood dowel into the fuse holder's socket and position the free end of the dowel against a firm surface. Push the load side (plug) housing forward until the fuse holder snaps into its locked position. Wipe off any excess lubricant.
- Prepare Line Side Cable and Housing
Repeat steps 1 through 4 for the line side (receptacle) housing and cable. Measure the line side cable diameter, cut the housing, strip the cable, crimp it to its fuse holder, and then assemble the fuse holder into the line side housing.
- Insert Fuse or Connecting Link
Insert a 13/32 inch by 1 1/2 inch fuse (600 Volt, 30 Amp max.) or the connecting link into the plug (load side) housing. WARNING: DO NOT use a glass body fuse.
- Connect Housings
Connect the load side (plug) and line side (receptacle) housings together, ensuring they are securely fastened.
