Aluminum Flood-Seal Mechanical Splice Two-Wire Kits, conductor range 14-2/0 connector length 1-1/2 inch, slotted screw, screws per side 1How to Install the Flood-Seal In-Line Fuse/Disconnect Kit
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Flood-Seal In-Line Fuse/Disconnect Kit, including preparing wires, crimping fuse clips, and assembling the housing for copper wires #14-2 AWG.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Wire strippers, Crimp tool (T&B No. WT 111M or TBM-20S), Crimp dies (C, Blue, Gray, Brown cavities as per chart), Assembly dowel
Supplies needed:
Flood-Seal In-Line Fuse/Disconnect Kit (Line End Housing, Load End Housing, Fuse Clips, Silicone Grease), Copper wire (#14-2 AWG), Fuse (13/32" x 1-1/2", 600V max, non-glass body) or Connecting Link (if applicable)
- Prepare Wires and Housings
CAUTION: De-energize all associated wires and working area. Identify Line and Load side wires. Select the correct cut-off ring on the Line End housing for your cable size and cut off the end. Wipe the cable clean, bevel the insulation, and apply silicone grease to the cable end and the cut opening of the Line End housing. Insert the cable 2 to 3 inches beyond the housing. Repeat these steps for the Load End housing.
- Strip Insulation and Crimp Fuse Clips
Strip 3/4 inch of insulation for 14 AWG to 10 AWG wires, or 3/8 inch for 8 AWG to 4 AWG wires. Do not pencil the insulation or exceed the specified strip length. Crimp the fuse clip onto the conductor using the recommended crimp tools and dies from the provided chart, ensuring two crimps rotated 90 degrees for optimal connection.
- Assemble Housings and Connect
Apply a small amount of silicone grease to the fuse clip. Slide the housing over the fuse clip until resistance is felt. Using the wood dowel as an assembly and depth gauge tool, insert the fuse clip to the indicated depth for both line and load side housings, as marked on the dowel; do not exceed these depths. Insert the connecting link or fuse (13/32” x 1-1/2”, 600V max, non-glass) into the Load End housing. Finally, mate the Line End and Load End housings to complete the electrical connection.
