How to Install the SLK 6 Street Lighting Kit

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the SLK 6 inline fuse/disconnect street lighting kit, including cable preparation, fuse holder assembly, and final connection.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Crimp tool (e.g., T&B WT111M or TBM45S), Die set (e.g., 'C' cavity, 'Blue' cavity, 'Gray' cavity, 'Brown' cavity), Wood dowel

Supplies needed:

Cable, Lubricant, Fuse (13/32" by 1 1/2", 600 Volt 30 Amp max.), Connecting link (optional)

  1. Prepare Load Side Cable and Housing

WARNING: Disconnect power before installation. This product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Identify LINE and LOAD sides of wiring. Measure the cable diameter and refer to Table 1 to select the corresponding section on the molded sleeve. Cut off the remaining sections of the load side (plug) housing to match the selected size. Clean approximately 8 inches along the load side cable end, apply lubricant, and insert the cable through the small hole in the load side housing. Push it through to allow for 3/8 inch insulation stripping, then strip 3/8 inch of insulation.

  2. Crimp Fuse Holder to Load Side Cable

Insert the stripped load side cable into the crimp barrel of the fuse holder. Refer to Table 2 for the recommended crimp tool and die based on conductor size, then securely crimp the connection.

  3. Assemble Fuse Holder into Load Side Housing

Lightly apply lubricant to the outside of the fuse holder. Place the wood dowel into the fuse holder's socket and position the free end against a firm surface. Push the load side (plug) housing forward until the fuse holder snaps securely into position. Wipe off any excess lubricant.

  4. Prepare Line Side Cable and Housing

Repeat Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3 for the line side (receptacle) housing. Ensure the cable diameter is measured, the housing is cut to size, the cable is cleaned, lubricated, and stripped, the fuse holder is crimped, and then assembled into the line side housing.

  5. Insert Fuse or Connecting Link

Insert a 13/32 inch by 1 1/2 inch fuse (600 Volt, 30 Amp maximum) or the connecting link into the plug (load side) housing. WARNING: DO NOT use a glass body fuse.

  6. Connect Housings

Connect the load side (plug) housing and the line side (receptacle) housing together, ensuring they are firmly joined.
