How to Install the Multi-Seal® RAB 1/0 SERIES Connector

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for safely installing the Multi-Seal® RAB 1/0 SERIES connector, including cable preparation, insertion, and torquing. Installation must be performed by trained installers following all applicable local, state, and national electrical codes, installation standards, and safety rules.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Torque wrench, Wire strippers, Insulating gloves

Supplies needed:

Electrical cable

  1. Prepare for Installation and Safety Check

Before beginning, ensure all unused cable ports are sealed. Follow standard safety practices for energized circuits, including wearing insulating gloves rated to the appropriate voltage if working on live conductors. Ensure tap conductors are not under load if installing on an energized main. Remove the cap from the connector; note that the cap is not required for #2 to 1/0 AWG cables.

  2. Remove Screw Plug and Prepare Cap

Remove the screw plug from the connector. If installing #14 to #4 AWG cable, cut the cap at the correct cut-off ring. Reinsert the cap into the connector if it is required for your cable gauge.

  3. Measure and Strip Cable

Measure the required strip length by placing the cable alongside the markings on the bottom of the connector. Using appropriate wire strippers, strip the cable to the measured length.

  4. Insert and Torque Cable

Insert the prepared cable fully into the connector. For #2 to 1/0 AWG, insert into the tower; for #14 to #4 AWG, insert into the cap. Replace the screw plug and torque the connector to 80 in/lbs using a torque wrench.
