How to Install FLOOD-SEAL® 95 Heat Shrink Connector Kits
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Thomas & Betts FLOOD-SEAL® 95 Heat Shrink Connector Kits, including preparing the cable, crimping the lug, and properly shrinking the sleeve for a secure seal. Ensure all work is performed by trained installers following safety guidelines.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Butane torch, Propane torch, 500°F electric heat gun, Wire brush, Crimping tool
Supplies needed:
FLOOD-SEAL® 95 Heat Shrink Connector Kit, Cable, Joint compound
- Prepare Cable and Conductor
Remove the cable insulation to the required length and thoroughly wire brush the conductor to ensure a clean connection surface.
- Position Heat Shrink Sleeve
Slip the heat shrink sleeve over the cable end, ensuring it is positioned correctly and out of the way for the next steps.
- Crimp and Connect Lug
Crimp the lug onto the conductor end. Immediately wipe away any excess joint compound. Securely bolt the lug to the contact pad on the FLOOD-SEAL connector bus.
- Position Sleeve Over Lug
Slip the heat shrink sleeve over the lug until it firmly butts against the connector bus.
- Shrink Sleeve at Bus End
Apply heat evenly to shrink the sleeve at the bus end. Move the heat source to a new position as visual shrinkage occurs. The seal is completed when a bead of mastic appears at the sleeve end.
- Shrink Sleeve Over Terminal Lug
Working away from the connector bus, continue to apply heat evenly and shrink the sleeve over the terminal lug.
- Shrink Sleeve Over Cable End
Shrink the remaining portion of the sleeve over the cable end. The seal is complete when a bead of mastic appears at this end.
- Observe Safety Precautions
WARNING: Danger of Electric Shock! Installation of this product must be performed by trained installers in accordance with all applicable local, state, and national electrical codes, installation standards, and safety rules. Do not use Acetylene as a heat source.
