How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors for Flexible Metallic Conduit

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for properly installing T&B liquidtight connectors, including preparing the conduit, assembling the connector components, and securing the connection to a knockout box. Ensure high performance and reliability by following these techniques.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Metal jig (for conduit cutting), Hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln. no. set), Power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set), Smooth jaw wrench, Torque wrench, Hand protection, Eye protection

Supplies needed:

Liquidtight flexible metal conduit, T&B Liquidtight connector (e.g., 7361 series), T&B 140 series locknuts (for knockout applications), T&B 5260 series sealing gaskets (for knockout applications), PVC cement (if using PVC coated connectors), Locknut (for 7000/9000 series, if not 140 series)

  1. Prepare for Installation and Cut Conduit

Before starting, read all instructions and safety information. Disconnect power to prevent shock. Wear hand and eye protection. Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end cut using a metal jig, a 32 Tooth/ln. hacksaw, or a 24-32 Tooth/ln. power band saw (not exceeding 400’/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel.

  2. Assemble the Connector Components

For 5000, 7000, and 9000 series connectors, slide the gland nut onto the conduit, followed by the nylon sealing ring. Then, thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone. For PVC coated connectors, use a smooth jaw wrench for tightening to prevent gouging; apply PVC cement if metal is exposed.

  3. Secure the Connector to the Knockout Box

For knockout applications, insert the connector body through the knockout hole. On the inside of the box, install a T&B® 5260 series sealing gasket (if required) and secure with a T&B® 140 series locknut (or the separately ordered locknut for 7000/9000 series). Ensure the 'O' ring is correctly positioned on the outside of the box for 5365-5370 series.

  4. Tighten the Gland Nut and Locknut

Using a torque wrench, tighten the gland nut to the connector body and the locknut to the box wall to the specified torque. Refer to the torque table for the correct tightening torque based on the trade size of the fitting (e.g., 3/8" requires 200 lb.-in., 2" requires 1600 lb.-in.). Ensure all connections are secure and liquidtight.
