How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight connectors on flexible metallic conduit, ensuring high performance and reliability.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln. no. set) or Power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set), Metal jig (optional, for conduit cutting), Smooth jaw wrench (for PVC coated connectors), Hand protection (gloves), Eye protection (safety glasses)

Supplies needed:

T&B Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B Liquidtight connector (5000, 7000, 9000, or PVC coated 3300 series), T&B 140 series locknuts (for knockout applications, purchase separately), T&B 5260 series sealing gaskets (for knockout applications, purchase separately), PVC cement (if needed for PVC coated connectors)

  1. Prepare the Conduit

WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before installation. CAUTION: Product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Wear hand and eye protection. Cut the liquidtight flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig, a sharp hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln.), or a power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set, not more than 400’/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel.

  2. Assemble the Connector Components

For 5000, 7000, 9000, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, slide the gland nut onto the conduit first. Next, slide on the nylon sealing ring. Finally, thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone. For PVC coated connectors, tighten the assembly with a smooth jaw wrench. If gouging occurs exposing metal, apply PVC cement.

  3. Install Connector into Knockout and Tighten

    Insert the connector body through the knockout in the box wall. For knockout applications, use T&B 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchased separately). Secure the connector by threading the locknut onto the connector body from inside the box. Tighten the locknut to the specified torque: 3/8" (200 lb.-in.), 1/2" (300 lb.-in.), 3/4" (500 lb.-in.), 1" (700 lb.-in.), 1 1/4" (1000 lb.-in.), 1 1/2" (1200 lb.-in.), 2" (1600 lb.-in.), 2 1/2" (1600 lb.-in.), 3" (1600 lb.-in.), 3 1/2" (1600 lb.-in.), 4" (1600 lb.-in.).
