How to Install T&B Liquidtight Flexible Metallic Conduit Connectors

This guide provides instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight connectors for flexible metallic conduit, ensuring high performance and reliability. WARNING: Disconnect power before installation. CAUTION: Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw (32 Tooth/In. no. set, sharp), Power band saw (optional, for high production), Metal jig (optional), Smooth jaw wrench, Torque wrench

Supplies needed:

Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B 140 series locknuts (for knockout applications), T&B 5260 series sealing gaskets (for knockout applications), PVC cement (for PVC coated connectors if needed)

  1. Prepare the Flexible Conduit

Wear hand and eye protection. Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig or a sharp hacksaw (32 Tooth/In. no. set). For high production, a power band saw (24-32 Tooth/In. wavy set, not more than 400’/minute) can be used. Do not use an abrasive wheel.

  2. Assemble Connector Components

For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, first slide on the gland nut. Next, slide on the nylon sealing ring. Finally, thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone. Ensure components are in the correct order as shown in Figure 2 of the documentation.

  3. Install Connector into Knockout (Optional)

For knockout applications, use T&B 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets, which must be purchased separately. Position the 'O' ring correctly on the outside of the box. For 7000 and 9000 series, order the locknut separately.

  4. Tighten the Connector

Tighten the locknut to the body. Refer to the provided torque table in the documentation for the correct tightening torque based on the trade size of the fitting (e.g., 3/8" requires 200 lb.-in., 1/2" requires 300 lb.-in.). For PVC coated connectors, use a smooth jaw wrench. If gouging occurs, exposing metal, PVC cement is recommended.

  5. Secure Chase® Connector (If Applicable)

For 'Space Saver' Chase® connector assemblies (Figure 3 of the documentation), achieve lock-up by either tightening the Chase® Nipple to the body or by turning the body onto the Chase® Nipple. Ensure the 'Box side' is correctly positioned on the outside of the box.
