How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors

This guide provides instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight connectors with flexible metallic conduit, ensuring high performance and reliability in electrical systems.

Estimated time: 20m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Metal jig (optional), Power band saw (optional), Smooth jaw wrench (for PVC coated connectors), Torque wrench (recommended for precise tightening)

Supplies needed:

Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B Liquidtight connector, Locknut (if not included or for specific series), Nylon sealing ring (if not pre-assembled), Safe Edge™ Cone (if not pre-assembled), PVC cement (if installing PVC coated connector and gouging occurs), T&B 140 series locknuts (for knockout applications), T&B 5260 series sealing gaskets (for knockout applications)

  1. Prioritize Safety

Before beginning installation, disconnect all power to prevent risk of electrical shock. Wear appropriate hand and eye protection. Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with all national and local electrical codes.

  2. Prepare the Flexible Conduit

Cut the flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig and a sharp hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln. no. set) or a power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set, not more than 400’/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel, as this can damage the conduit.

  3. Assemble the Connector Components

For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, slide the gland nut onto the conduit, followed by the nylon sealing ring. Then, thread the Safe Edge™ Cone onto the conduit. For PVC coated connectors, use a smooth jaw wrench for tightening; if metal is exposed due to gouging, apply PVC cement.

  4. Insert Connector into Knockout or Box

Insert the body of the liquidtight connector into the knockout opening of the electrical box. For knockout applications, ensure you use T&B® 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchased separately) for a secure and sealed connection. For 7000 and 9000 series, order the locknut separately.

  5. Secure the Connector

    Thread the locknut onto the connector body from inside the box and tighten it to the specified torque. Refer to the provided torque table for the correct tightening torque based on the fitting's trade size (e.g., 3/8" = 200 lb.-in., 1/2" = 300 lb.-in., 3/4" = 500 lb.-in., 1" = 700 lb.-in., 1 1/4" = 1000 lb.-in., 1 1/2" = 1200 lb.-in., 2" = 1600 lb.-in., 2 1/2" - 4" = 1600 lb.-in.).

  6. (Optional) Install Chase® Connector Assemblies

For 'Space Saver' Chase® connector assemblies, which feature three styles of Chase® connector bodies for outside of the knockout, achieve lock-up by either tightening the Chase® Nipple to the body or by turning the body onto the Chase® Nipple.
