How to Install T&B 7000 Series Liquidtight Connectors

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for properly installing T&B 7000 series liquidtight connectors onto flexible metallic conduit and securing them to a knockout box, ensuring high performance and reliability.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Metal jig (optional), Smooth jaw wrench (for PVC coated connectors), Torque wrench (recommended), Eye protection, Hand protection

Supplies needed:

T&B 7000 Series Liquidtight Connector, Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B 140 series locknut (for knockout applications), T&B 5260 series sealing gasket (for knockout applications), PVC cement (if gouging occurs on PVC coated connectors)

  1. Ensure Safety and Prepare Work Area

WARNING: Disconnect all power before beginning installation to prevent risk of shock. Wear appropriate hand protection and eye protection throughout the process. Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.

  2. Prepare the Flexible Conduit

Cut the flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig and a sharp hacksaw (32 Tooth/In. no. set) or a power band saw (24-32 Tooth/In. wavy set, not more than 400'/minute). Avoid using an abrasive wheel to prevent damage to the conduit.

  3. Assemble the Connector Components

For 5000, 7000, and 9000 series connectors, first slide the gland nut onto the prepared conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the Safe Edge™ Cone into the conduit end, ensuring it is properly seated.

  4. Mount Connector to Knockout Box and Secure

For knockout applications, place a T&B 5260 series sealing gasket on the outside of the box. Insert the connector body through the knockout. Secure the connector by threading a T&B 140 series locknut onto the connector body from the inside of the box. For 7000 and 9000 series, ensure a locknut (ordered separately) is used to firmly attach the connector.

  5. Tighten the Connector

    Thread the connector body onto the gland nut. Tighten the locknut to the body using a torque wrench to the specified values (e.g., 3/8" = 200 lb-in, 1/2" = 300 lb-in, 3/4" = 500 lb-in, 1" = 700 lb-in, 1 1/4" = 1000 lb-in, 1 1/2" = 1200 lb-in, 2" = 1600 lb-in, 2 1/2" - 4" = 1600 lb-in). For PVC coated connectors, use a smooth jaw wrench; if gouging occurs exposing metal, apply PVC cement.
