This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connectors, ensuring high performance and reliability.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln. no. set, sharp), Power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set, not more than 400’/minute), Metal jig (optional, for cutting conduit), Smooth jaw wrench (for PVC coated connectors), Hand protection, Eye protection
Supplies needed:
Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B Liquidtight connector (e.g., 7360 series), T&B 140 series locknuts (for knockout applications, if not included), T&B 5260 series sealing gaskets (for knockout applications, if not included), PVC cement (if needed for PVC coated connectors)
- Prepare for Installation and Observe Safety Precautions
Read and understand all instructions and safety information before proceeding. WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before installation. CAUTION: Product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Wear hand protection and eye protection during the installation process.
- Cut the Flexible Conduit
Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end cut. For best results, use a metal jig, a 32 Tooth/ln. no. set sharp hacksaw, or a 24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set power band saw (not more than 400’/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel, as this can damage the conduit.
- Assemble the Connector Components
For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, first slide on the gland nut, then slide on the nylon sealing ring, and finally thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone. If installing a PVC coated connector, tighten it with a smooth jaw wrench to prevent damage. If gouging occurs exposing metal, PVC cement is recommended for sealing.
- Install Connector into Knockout Box (if applicable)
If installing into a knockout box, use T&B 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchase separately if not included). For 7000 and 9000 series, order the locknut separately. For Chase® connector assemblies, ensure only the Chase® Nipple goes inside the knockout, and position the 'Box side' correctly on the outside of the box.
- Secure and Tighten the Connector
Securely lock the connector to the body by tightening the locknut. Refer to the torque table for the appropriate tightening torque based on the trade size of the fitting: 3/8" (200 lb.-in.), 1/2" (300 lb.-in.), 3/4" (500 lb.-in.), 1" (700 lb.-in.), 1 1/4" (1000 lb.-in.), 1 1/2" (1200 lb.-in.), 2" (1600 lb.-in.), 2 1/2" (1600 lb.-in.), 3" (1600 lb.-in.), 3 1/2" (1600 lb.-in.), 4" (1600 lb.-in.).
