Hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln. no. set), Metal jig (optional, for conduit cutting), Power band saw (optional, for high production), Smooth jaw wrench (for PVC coated connectors), Hand protection (gloves), Eye protection (safety glasses)
Supplies needed:
T&B Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B Liquidtight connector (e.g., 7367 series), T&B 140 series locknuts (for knockout applications, purchase separately), T&B 5260 series sealing gaskets (for knockout applications, purchase separately), PVC cement (if needed for PVC coated connectors)
- Prepare for Installation Safely
WARNING: Disconnect power before installation to prevent risk of shock. Wear hand protection and eye protection. CAUTION: This product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
- Cut the Flexible Conduit
Cut the flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end. Utilize a metal jig or a sharp hacksaw with a 32 Tooth/ln. no. set. For high-volume work, a power band saw with a 24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set (max 400’/minute) is recommended. Avoid using an abrasive wheel for cutting.
- Assemble Connector Components
For 5000, 7000, and 9000 series connectors (including PVC coated 3300 series), begin by sliding the gland nut onto the flexible conduit. Then, slide the nylon sealing ring into place. Conclude this step by threading the Safe Edge™ Cone into the end of the conduit.
- Install Connector into Knockout (if applicable)
For knockout applications, position the connector body correctly on the outside of the box, observing any 'Box side' markings. Secure the connector using T&B 140 series locknuts and T&B 5260 series sealing gaskets, which are purchased separately. Note that for 7000 and 9000 series connectors, the locknut must be ordered independently.
- Tighten Gland Nut and Locknut
Securely tighten the gland nut onto the connector body, ensuring the conduit is firmly held. Consult the 'Tightening torque' table in the documentation for the precise torque value corresponding to the fitting's trade size (e.g., 3/8" requires 200 lb.-in., 1/2" requires 300 lb.-in., 3/4" requires 500 lb.-in., 1" requires 700 lb.-in., etc.). If working with PVC coated connectors, use a smooth jaw wrench to prevent damage; apply PVC cement if any metal is exposed due to gouging. Finally, ensure any locknut used is also securely tightened.
