How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight connectors with flexible metallic conduit, ensuring high performance and reliability.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Smooth Jaw Wrench, Metal Jig

Supplies needed:

Liquidtight Flexible Metallic Conduit, T&B Liquidtight Connector, Locknut, Sealing Gasket, PVC Cement (optional)

  1. Prepare for Installation and Ensure Safety

WARNING: Disconnect all power before beginning installation to prevent risk of electrical shock. CAUTION: Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with all national and local electrical codes. Wear appropriate hand and eye protection throughout the process.

  2. Cut the Flexible Conduit

Cut the liquidtight flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig, a sharp hacksaw with 32 teeth/inch, or a power band saw (24-32 teeth/inch, not exceeding 400 feet/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel for cutting.

  3. Assemble Connector Components onto Conduit

For 5000, 7000, 9000, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, slide the gland nut onto the conduit, followed by the nylon sealing ring. Then, thread the Safe Edge™ Cone into the conduit end. If using a PVC coated connector, tighten these components with a smooth jaw wrench to avoid gouging; apply PVC cement if metal is exposed.

  4. Secure the Connector to the Enclosure

Insert the connector body through the knockout opening in the box wall. For knockout applications, use a T&B® 140 series locknut and a 5260 series sealing gasket (purchased separately). For 7000 and 9000 series, ensure you have the correct locknut. Thread the locknut onto the connector body from inside the box and tighten it to the specified torque from the table (e.g., 200 lb.-in. for 3/8", 300 lb.-in. for 1/2", 500 lb.-in. for 3/4", etc.).
