How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors
This guide provides proper installation methods for T&B liquidtight connectors, ensuring high performance and reliability for liquidtight flexible metallic conduit. Always disconnect power before installation and wear appropriate hand and eye protection. Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with all national and local electrical codes.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw (32 Tooth/In. no. set, sharp), Power band saw (24-32 Tooth/In. wavy set, not more than 400’/minute, for high production), Metal jig (for conduit cutting), Smooth jaw wrench (for PVC coated connectors), Torque wrench (to meet specified tightening torques), Hand protection, Eye protection
Supplies needed:
Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B liquidtight connectors (5000, 7000, 9000 series & PVC coated 3300 series), T&B 140 series locknuts (for knockout applications, purchase separately), T&B 5260 series sealing gaskets (for knockout applications, purchase separately), PVC cement (if gouging occurs on PVC coated connectors)
- Prepare the Flexible Conduit
Cut the liquidtight flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig, a 32 Tooth/In. no. set sharp hacksaw, or a 24-32 Tooth/In. wavy set power band saw (not more than 400’/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel.
- Assemble the Liquidtight Connector
For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, first slide on the gland nut, then slide on the nylon sealing ring, and finally thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone. For PVC coated connectors, use a smooth jaw wrench for tightening; if gouging occurs exposing metal, PVC cement is recommended.
- Install Connector to Knockout Box
Insert the body of the liquidtight connector through the knockout hole from the outside of the box. For knockout applications, use T&B® 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchase separately). For 7000 and 9000 series, order locknut separately. Ensure the 'O' ring is correctly positioned on the outside of the box.
- Secure the Connector and Conduit
Thread the locknut onto the connector body from inside the knockout box and tighten it to the specified torque (refer to the provided torque table for trade size of fitting). For Chase® connector assemblies, lock-up can be made by tightening the Chase® Nipple to the body or by turning the body onto the Chase® Nipple. Ensure the connection is liquidtight and secure.
