How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for properly installing T&B liquidtight connectors with flexible metallic conduit, ensuring high performance and reliability in accordance with electrical codes.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln. blade), Power band saw (optional, for high production), Smooth jaw wrench, Torque wrench

Supplies needed:

T&B Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B Liquidtight connector, T&B 140 series locknuts (for knockout applications), 5260 series sealing gaskets (for knockout applications), Locknut (for 7000 and 9000 series), PVC cement (optional)

  1. Review Safety and Disconnect Power

Before beginning installation, read and understand all instructions and safety information. Be aware of proper usage and potential hazards. WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before installation. CAUTION: Product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Wear hand protection and eye protection throughout the process.

  2. Prepare Conduit End

Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig (if available), a sharp hacksaw with a 32 Tooth/ln. blade, or for high production, a power band saw with a 24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set (operating at no more than 400 feet per minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel for cutting.

  3. Assemble Connector

For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, first slide the gland nut onto the conduit. Next, slide on the nylon sealing ring. Then, thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone. For PVC coated connectors, tighten the assembly using a smooth jaw wrench to prevent gouging. If metal is exposed due to gouging, apply PVC cement.

  4. Mount Connector to Box or Knockout

Insert the assembled connector body into the knockout box or enclosure. For knockout applications, use T&B® 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchased separately). For 7000 and 9000 series, ensure the appropriate locknut is used (ordered separately). For 'Space Saver' Chase® connector assemblies, secure the connection by tightening the Chase® Nipple to the body or by turning the body onto the Chase® Nipple.

  5. Tighten Locknut to Specification

    Using a torque wrench, securely tighten the locknut to the connector body according to the specified torque values. Apply 200 lb.-in. for 3/8" fittings, 300 lb.-in. for 1/2", 500 lb.-in. for 3/4", 700 lb.-in. for 1", 1000 lb.-in. for 1 1/4", 1200 lb.-in. for 1 1/2", and 1600 lb.-in. for 2" through 4" fittings.
