How to Install T&B Liquidtight Flexible Metallic Conduit Connectors
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connectors, ensuring high performance and reliability in accordance with electrical codes.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Metal jig, Torque wrench, Smooth jaw wrench, Safety glasses, Work gloves
Supplies needed:
Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B Liquidtight connector, T&B 140 series locknuts (optional), 5260 series sealing gaskets (optional), PVC cement (optional)
- Prepare for Installation and Ensure Safety
Disconnect all power to the area before beginning installation. Wear appropriate hand and eye protection. Ensure a qualified electrician performs the installation in accordance with all national and local electrical codes.
- Cut the Flexible Conduit
Cut the liquidtight flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig and a sharp hacksaw (32 Tooth/inch) or a power band saw (24-32 Tooth/inch, max 400 ft/min) for high production. Do not use an abrasive wheel.
- Assemble the Liquidtight Connector
For 5000, 7000, 9000, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, first slide the gland nut onto the conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the Safe Edge™ Cone into the connector body.
- Install Connector into Box Knockout
Insert the connector body through the knockout hole in the electrical box. For knockout applications, secure the connector using a T&B® 140 series locknut and a 5260 series sealing gasket on the inside of the box (if required and purchased separately). Ensure the 'O' ring is correctly positioned on the outside of the box.
- Tighten the Connector
Tighten the locknut to the connector body according to the specified torque values provided in the documentation (e.g., 200 lb-in for 3/8", 300 lb-in for 1/2", etc.). If installing a PVC coated connector, use a smooth jaw wrench to tighten, and apply PVC cement if any metal is exposed due to gouging.
