How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors (7000 Series)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connectors, including safety precautions and assembly details.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Metal jig, Power band saw, Smooth jaw wrench, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B Liquidtight connector (e.g., 7343 series), T&B 140 series locknuts, T&B 5260 series sealing gaskets, PVC cement
- Prepare the Conduit
WARNING: Disconnect power before installation to prevent risk of shock. Wear hand and eye protection. Cut the liquidtight flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig and a sharp hacksaw (32 teeth/inch) or a power band saw (24-32 teeth/inch, max 400 ft/min for high production). Do not use an abrasive wheel.
- Assemble the Connector Components
For 5000, 7000, 9000, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, slide the gland nut onto the conduit, followed by the nylon sealing ring. Then, thread the Safe Edge™ Cone onto the conduit end. For PVC coated connectors, use a smooth jaw wrench for tightening to prevent gouging; apply PVC cement if metal is exposed.
- Mount the Connector to the Box
Insert the connector body into the knockout hole of the box. For knockout applications, use a T&B 140 series locknut and a 5260 series sealing gasket (purchased separately). For 7000 and 9000 series, ensure the locknut is ordered separately. Position the 'O' ring correctly on the outside of the box. Secure the connector by tightening the locknut to the box wall according to the specified torque values (e.g., 200 lb-in for 3/8", 300 lb-in for 1/2").
- Tighten the Gland Nut
Tighten the gland nut onto the connector body to secure the conduit. Ensure a liquidtight seal is achieved. Refer to the torque table for appropriate tightening specifications based on the fitting's trade size.
