Overview

The ABB 1" Straight Steel Chase Liquidtight Insulated Connector (SKU: 5364) is a heavy-duty conduit fitting designed for secure, watertight connections in industrial electrical systems. Constructed from durable steel with electro-zinc plating, this connector resists corrosion and provides long-term reliability in harsh environments. The liquidtight design incorporates a captive O-ring seal and double bevel sealing ring, ensuring protection against liquids, dust, and contaminants per NEC 351-7 requirements. The straight configuration simplifies conduit routing while maintaining a secure, strain-relieved connection. Dimensions are 2 1/32" (A) x 2 1/8" (B) x 1/4" (C), compatible with 1-inch trade size conduit. The integrated nylon insulator and SAFE-EDGE ground cone enhance electrical safety and cable protection. This connector is part of the T&B 52/53 Series, tested to exceed T&B quality control specifications including oscillation, drop, heat, vibration, pressure, and corrosion tests. Ideal for manufacturing facilities, processing plants, and outdoor installations where environmental sealing and conductor integrity are critical.

How to Install T&B 5364 Liquidtight Connectors

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B 5364 liquidtight connectors with flexible metallic conduit, ensuring a secure and reliable connection in accordance with electrical codes.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw (with 32 Tooth/ln. blade) or power band saw, Torque wrench

Supplies needed:

T&B 5364 Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connector, Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, Locknut, Safety glasses, Work gloves

  1. Prepare for Installation and Ensure Safety

WARNING: Disconnect all power to the circuit before beginning installation to prevent risk of electric shock. CAUTION: Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with all national and local electrical codes. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and work gloves.

  2. Cut the Flexible Conduit

Cut the liquidtight flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig, a sharp hacksaw with a 32 Tooth/ln. blade, or a power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set, not more than 400’/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel.

  3. Assemble the Connector Components onto the Conduit

Slide the gland nut onto the cut end of the flexible conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. For 5361-5364 series, the O-ring is captive, so ensure the sealing ring assembly is correctly positioned. Thread the Safe Edge™ Cone onto the conduit, ensuring it is securely engaged with the conduit's spirals.

  4. Install Connector into Knockout Box

Insert the connector body through the knockout opening in the electrical box. For knockout applications, consider using T&B 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchased separately) for optimal sealing.

  5. Secure the Connector with Locknut

Place the locknut onto the connector body from inside the electrical box. Tighten the locknut firmly against the box wall to secure the connector.

  6. Tighten the Gland Nut

Tighten the gland nut onto the connector body to the specified torque. Refer to the torque table in the documentation for the correct tightening torque based on the trade size of the fitting (e.g., 3/8" requires 200 lb.-in., 1/2" requires 300 lb.-in.). This ensures a liquidtight seal.
