How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors (including 5370 Series)

This guide provides proper methods for installing T&B liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connectors, such as the 5370 series, ensuring high performance and reliability in accordance with national and local electrical codes.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln. no. set, sharp), Metal jig (optional), Smooth jaw wrench (for PVC coated connectors), Torque wrench

Supplies needed:

Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B Liquidtight Connector (e.g., 5370 series), T&B 140 series locknuts (for knockout applications), T&B 5260 series sealing gaskets (for knockout applications), PVC cement (optional, for PVC coated connectors)

  1. Disconnect Power and Prepare Conduit

WARNING: Disconnect power before beginning installation to prevent risk of shock. Wear hand and eye protection. Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end using a metal jig and a sharp hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln.) or a power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set, not more than 400’/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel.

  2. Assemble Connector Components

For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, slide the gland nut onto the conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the Safe Edge™ Cone onto the conduit.

  3. Install Connector into Knockout

Insert the connector body through the knockout hole in the box wall. For knockout applications, place a T&B® 5260 series sealing gasket (if required) and then thread a T&B® 140 series locknut onto the connector body from the inside of the box. Ensure the 'O' ring (for 5365 to 5370 series) or the 1-piece sealing ring (for 5361 to 5364 series) is correctly positioned on the outside of the box.

  4. Tighten Connector

Tighten the locknut to the connector body according to the specified torque values. For 3/8" fittings, apply 200 lb.-in. torque; for 1/2", 300 lb.-in.; for 3/4", 500 lb.-in.; for 1", 700 lb.-in.; for 1 1/4", 1000 lb.-in.; for 1 1/2", 1200 lb.-in.; and for 2" to 4", 1600 lb.-in. For PVC coated connectors, use a smooth jaw wrench to prevent gouging; if gouging occurs exposing metal, apply PVC cement. CAUTION: Product should be installed by a qualified electrician.
