How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors (5000 Series)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for properly installing T&B liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connectors, ensuring high performance and reliability. Always disconnect power before installation and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Torque wrench, Smooth jaw wrench, Hand protection, Eye protection
Supplies needed:
Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B Liquidtight connector (e.g., 5368 series), T&B 140 series locknut (if not included or for knockout applications), T&B 5260 series sealing gasket (for knockout applications), PVC cement (optional, for PVC coated connectors)
- Prepare the Flexible Conduit
Wear hand and eye protection. Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig, a sharp hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln.), or a power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set, not more than 400’/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel for cutting.
- Assemble Connector Components
For 5000, 7000, and 9000 series connectors, first slide the gland nut onto the conduit, followed by the nylon sealing ring. Then, thread the Safe Edge™ Cone onto the conduit end. For PVC coated connectors, use a smooth jaw wrench for tightening to prevent gouging. If gouging occurs exposing metal, PVC cement is recommended.
- Secure Connector to Enclosure
WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before installation. CAUTION: Product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Insert the connector body through the knockout from the outside of the box. For knockout applications, use a T&B 140 series locknut and 5260 series sealing gasket (if applicable, purchased separately). Position the locknut on the inside of the box wall. Tighten the locknut to the connector body according to the torque table provided in the documentation (e.g., 200 lb.-in. for 3/8", 300 lb.-in. for 1/2"). Ensure the 'O' ring (for 5365-5370 series) is correctly positioned on the outside of the box.
