Overview

The ABB 5372 1/2 inch 90 degree malleable iron chase liquidtight insulated connector is a corrosion-resistant solution for electrical conduit systems. Constructed from malleable iron with electro-zinc plating, this connector provides long-term protection against environmental factors while maintaining electrical integrity. Designed for use with liquidtight flexible metal conduit, it features a 90-degree bend to simplify routing in tight spaces. The insulated design prevents electrical shorts and enhances safety in industrial, commercial, and residential applications. Compatible with standard 1/2 inch conduit sizes, this connector meets industry requirements for mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. It is ideal for installations requiring liquidtight protection, such as outdoor lighting, HVAC systems, and machinery enclosures. The electro-zinc plating ensures durability in harsh conditions, while the malleable iron construction offers reliable performance under mechanical stress. How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connectors, ensuring high performance and reliability in accordance with electrical codes.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw (32 teeth/inch), Power band saw (optional), Metal jig (optional), Smooth jaw wrench (for PVC coated connectors), Torque wrench

Supplies needed:

Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B liquidtight connector, T&B 140 series locknut (for knockout applications, if not included), T&B 5260 series sealing gasket (for knockout applications, if not included), PVC cement (optional, for PVC coated connectors)

  1. Prioritize Safety and Disconnect Power

Read and understand all instructions and safety information before proceeding. Wear hand and eye protection. WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect all power before beginning installation. CAUTION: Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.

  2. Prepare the Flexible Conduit

Cut the liquidtight flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig, a sharp hacksaw (32 teeth/inch), or a power band saw (24-32 teeth/inch, not exceeding 400 feet/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel for cutting.

  3. Assemble the Liquidtight Connector

For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, first slide the gland nut onto the conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the Safe Edge™ Cone onto the conduit. For PVC coated connectors, use a smooth jaw wrench for tightening to prevent gouging; if metal is exposed, apply PVC cement.

  4. Install Connector to Knockout Box (if applicable)

Insert the connector body through the knockout hole from the outside of the box. For knockout applications, use a T&B 140 series locknut and a 5260 series sealing gasket (purchased separately). For 7000 and 9000 series, order the locknut separately. Ensure the 'O' ring is correctly positioned on the outside of the box.

  5. Secure and Tighten the Connector

Tighten the locknut onto the connector body from inside the knockout box. Then, tighten the gland nut to the connector body to secure the conduit. Refer to the torque table for specific tightening torque values based on the fitting's trade size (e.g., 3/8": 200 lb.-in., 1/2": 300 lb.-in., 3/4": 500 lb.-in., 1": 700 lb.-in., 1 1/4": 1000 lb.-in., 1 1/2": 1200 lb.-in., 2" and above: 1600 lb.-in.).
