How to Install T&B 5360 Series Liquidtight Connectors
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for properly installing T&B liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connectors, including cutting the conduit, assembling components, and securing the connection to an enclosure.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln. no. set), Power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set), Metal jig (optional), Smooth jaw wrench (for PVC coated connectors), Torque wrench, Hand protection (gloves), Eye protection (safety glasses)
Supplies needed:
T&B 5360 Series Liquidtight Connector, Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B 140 Series Locknut (for knockout applications, purchased separately), T&B 5260 Series Sealing Gasket (for knockout applications, purchased separately), PVC cement (optional, for PVC coated connectors)
- Disconnect Power and Wear Personal Protective Equipment
WARNING: Disconnect all power to the electrical system before beginning installation to prevent risk of shock. Wear hand protection and eye protection throughout the installation process. Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
- Prepare the Flexible Conduit
Cut the liquidtight flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig, a sharp hacksaw with 32 teeth/inch, or a power band saw with 24-32 teeth/inch (not exceeding 400 feet/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel, as this can damage the conduit.
- Assemble Connector onto Conduit
For 5000, 7000, 9000, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors (including 5360 series), first slide the gland nut onto the conduit. Next, slide on the nylon sealing ring. Finally, thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone onto the conduit end. For PVC coated connectors, use a smooth jaw wrench to avoid gouging; if gouging occurs, apply PVC cement.
- Install Connector to Enclosure
Insert the connector body into the knockout opening of the box or enclosure. For knockout applications, use T&B® 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchased separately). Ensure the 'Box side' of the connector is correctly positioned on the outside of the box.
- Secure the Connector
Secure the connector by tightening the locknut to the body. Refer to the tightening torque table for the specific trade size of your fitting (e.g., 3/8" requires 200 lb.-in., 1/2" requires 300 lb.-in., etc.). For 'Space Saver' Chase® connector assemblies, lock-up can be achieved by tightening the Chase® Nipple to the body or by turning the body onto the Chase® Nipple.
