How to Install the 5356SST6 Liquid-tight Flexible Metallic Conduit Fitting
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for assembling and installing the 5356SST6 stainless steel liquid-tight fitting for flexible metallic conduit, ensuring a secure and liquid-tight connection for 1-1/2 inch NPT applications.

Hacksaw (32 Tooth/In.), Metal jig (optional), Hammer, Standard screwdriver, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
5356SST6 Liquid-tight Flexible Metallic Conduit Fitting, Liquid-tight flexible metal conduit (1-1/2 inch), Locknut (LNSS/150 for 1-1/2" NPT), Seal Gasket (5266 for 1-1/2" NPT)
- Prepare the Flexible Conduit
Cut the end of the flexible conduit with a clean, square cut. Use a metal jig and a 32 tooth/inch hacksaw, or a power band saw (24-32 tooth/inch, not exceeding 400 ft/min). DO NOT USE AN ABRASIVE WHEEL, as this can damage the conduit.
- Assemble Fitting Components onto Conduit
First, slide the gland nut (part 128B) onto the cut end of the flexible metal conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the SAFE-EDGE® ground cone onto the conduit end, ensuring it is properly seated.
- Install Fitting into Box Wall
Insert the assembled fitting into the desired knockout opening in the box wall. From inside the box, place the seal gasket (Part No. 5266 for 1-1/2" NPT) over the fitting threads. Secure the fitting with the locknut (Part No. LNSS/150 for 1-1/2" NPT). Hand-tighten the locknut, then further tighten it 1/4 turn with a hammer and a standard screwdriver or an equivalent method, as per UL, CSA & NEMA recommendations.
- Tighten the Gland Nut
Tighten the gland nut (part 128B) to the UL recommended torque value to secure the conduit within the fitting and ensure a liquid-tight seal. For a 1-1/2" NPT fitting (53x6SST6), the recommended tightening torque is 1200 lb-in (136 N-m).
