How to Install 5354SST6 Stainless Steel 90° Liquid-Tight Flexible Metallic Conduit Fitting
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for assembling and installing the 5354SST6 stainless steel 90° liquid-tight fitting for 1" flexible metallic conduit, ensuring high performance and reliability in liquid-tight and dust-tight installations.

Hacksaw (32 Tooth/In. no. set), Metal jig (optional, for conduit cutting), Power band saw (optional, for high production conduit cutting), Hammer, Standard screwdriver, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
5354SST6 Stainless Steel 90° Liquid-Tight Fitting (includes SS Body, SS Gland Nut, Nylon Sealing Ring, SAFE-EDGE Ground Cone), Liquid-tight flexible metallic conduit (1" trade size), T&B Series 5264 Seal Gasket (for 1" NPT), T&B Series LNSS/100 Locknut (for 1" NPT), Electrical box or enclosure with 1" NPT knockout
- Prepare the Flexible Metallic Conduit (LFMC)
Cut the end of the flexible conduit with a clean, square cut. Use a metal jig and a sharp hacksaw (32 Tooth/In. no. set) or a power band saw (24-32 Tooth/In. set, not more than 400'/minute) for high production. DO NOT use an abrasive wheel for cutting the conduit.
- Assemble the Fitting Components onto the Conduit
First, slide the gland nut onto the prepared flexible metallic conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the SAFE-EDGE® ground cone onto the conduit end, ensuring it is properly seated and makes good contact.
- Install the Fitting Body into the Enclosure
For knockout applications, insert the threaded body of the 5354SST6 fitting into the knockout hole in the box wall. Place the appropriate T&B® Series 5264 seal gasket (required for liquid-tight and dust-tight installations) over the fitting threads against the box wall. Secure the fitting from the inside of the box with a T&B® Series LNSS/100 locknut, which must be purchased separately.
- Tighten the Locknut
Hand-tighten the locknut (LNSS/100) and then further tighten it 1/4 turn using a hammer and a standard screwdriver, or by an equivalent method. This procedure is recommended by UL, CSA, and NEMA for proper locknut fastening.
- Secure the Gland Nut
Tighten the gland nut to the UL recommended torque value. For a 1" NPT fitting (53x4SST6), tighten the gland nut to 700 lb-in (79.1 N-m). This critical step ensures a secure, liquid-tight, and dust-tight connection for the flexible metallic conduit.
